(TOM2) continues to innovate with completing the move to its new transactional-based mapmaking platform. This platform is the first of its kind in the map industry and a leap forward in mapmaking technologies. It furthers TomTom’s lead in delivering the highest quality and up-to-date maps optimizing on crowdsourced data alongside traditional mapmaking methods. This launch represents a significant milestone for the company and is the critical step to bringing real-time maps to customers.
“We are the first to deliver a global platform that allows for map updates to be continuously released to users,” said Harold Goddijn, CEO at TomTom. “The era of map updates in batches is over, now we can update maps as changes are detected. This puts TomTom in a unique position to start providing the real-time quality and accuracy needed for the future use-cases such as driver assistance applications and highly automated driving.”
TomTom’s new transactional mapmaking platform brings great advantages in efficiencies and minimises the time between detecting changes in the real-world and updating the map on an end-user’s device. A change can pass through TomTom’s mapmaking process, be fully quality assured in real-time, and end up in a customer’s map in just minutes. This new platform can scale to process new sources of sensor data efficiently, furthering TomTom’s lead in optimising professional and community input mapmaking techniques. End-users using TomTom’s real-time maps will always have accurate and up-to-date maps across automotive, mobile and location-based online applications.
“This has been a huge, complex project for the maps team at TomTom and I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved and the time in which it has been achieved,” said Charles Cautley, Managing Director Maps & Licensing at TomTom. “There is a lot of potential with this new platform and with it we look forward to delivering the high-quality map content that meets the growing customer location requirements.”

    Hi,

    Julian

Bad translation but better than nothing:-
Hi, I just look only shortly after the rights, I consider myself short. I am happy to help with further inquiries.Drumuser: In the new year it will be ready. The question remains however, for which devices we can offer this at what time, because it must be converted very many complex internal processes ... Here I have at this time no concrete information. As soon as I should have this, I share this naturally happy with you!lonesomeRider: The difference between NDS and MapShare is enormous: Currently, only certain categories of fixes can be done via Map Share as eg major changes affect route planning, etc., and Such changes (in quantity) is not "just" the map can be implemented. Furthermore, you have to know that currently the maps of TomTom devices must be compressed because the map data would otherwise be extremely occupy a lot of memory (with correspondingly long times for Download / Installation). This process of compression usually takes up to three months, which is why there are delays, for example, when new roads are opened and we knew in advance anything about it (what we are trying of course to avoid). The NDS card technology allows us this process many times to accelerate , In addition, we improving much more "attributes" in a map (eg Time of day restrictions and other special situations). There will be the latest maps much more often and much faster so with NDS cards. @ Met-man: I will (once I again'm at the office) your criticism regarding. MapShare track on Android continues, so that I am experiencing the explicit reasons / plans at the moment. My guess is that it is not supported because the corrections could be integrated only after starting the app, which would prevent navigation. This is but as I said just my personal guess, let's wait what does the team do so. In terms of traffic information further innovations are firmly planned, for strategic reasons, however, I would rather not comment in public to advance. Greetings Julian

TomTom Traffic Sees Major Improvements and Total Number of Countries with TomTom Traffic Hits 50 Globally

Amsterdam, 9 February 2016 – TomTom ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ]) today announced significant enhancements to its [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] service – benefiting drivers using TomTom [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (PNDs) and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], as well as customers who have [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] agreements with TomTom. The improvements are being revealed at the same time as TomTom announces a geo-expansion milestone for its traffic service. With the addition of Indonesia and Slovenia, TomTom Traffic is now available in 50 countries globally.
Major enhancements made to TomTom Traffic include Turn-Dependent Jam Information, Dynamic Speed Limit Messages, Weather Influenced Predictions and Road Condition Monitoring after Rain or Snow. The improvements will be rolled-out from April 2016.
Ralf-Peter Schäfer, Head of Traffic at TomTom, said: “At TomTom, we work tirelessly to ensure that we deliver a leading Traffic service. The major enhancements that we’re announcing today will improve the driving experience for people using our award-winning PNDs and apps, as well as drivers who are using a product that is powered by TomTom Traffic through a licensing agreement. We like to keep things simple, so drivers won’t notice many of the new features that are running in the background, but we do believe that they’ll notice that their journeys come with fewer headaches, as well as being faster.”

    Overview of New Features:
    Turn-Dependent Traffic Information
Congestion at some junctions may only affect drivers taking a certain turn (or travelling straight on). The new enhancement automatically detects the different ‘turn dependent’ traffic situations at junctions and enables the navigation system to only take into account jams specific to the driver’s turn intention on their specific route.

    Dynamic Speed Limit Messages
Agencies responsible for managing the road networks deploy roadside or overhead message signs in order to dynamically change the speed limit. This is done to reduce the speed of traffic during busy periods, so that drivers are moving more safely and in a more consistent flow. TomTom Traffic will automatically monitor highways with variable speed signs, and displays them to the driver.

    Weather Influenced Predictions
Heavy rain or snowfall can have a significant impact on the speed of traffic. TomTom Traffic will use advanced weather information with other influencing factors, such as severity and tendency, of any existing jams, to further improve the accuracy of the expected lifetime of congestion, and future speeds on the road.

Road Condition Monitoring after Rain or Snow
Traffic conditions may continue to be affected by delays for some time after snow has stopped falling, if there is snow lying on the road. TomTom Traffic will monitor areas affected by weather-related delays, and continue to display relevant delay messages until the road returns to normal. This ensures that delays can be taken into account with regards best routing and ETA information.
Also announced today is the launch of TomTom’s world-class traffic service in Indonesia and Slovenia. TomTom now provides accurate traffic information for highways, major roads and secondary roads in 50 countries. TomTom Traffic includes congestion forecasting, which indicates whether a jam is growing or dispersing, and estimates how long a delay will last.
“Traffic congestion is an issue for many cities around the world”, continues Schäfer, “and those in Indonesia and Slovenia are no different. As well as hitting a major milestone in the roll-out of TomTom Traffic globally, the launch of TomTom Traffic in these two new countries gives their drivers, their automotive industries, and governments, a concrete way to tackle traffic congestion. Our aim is to help drivers get there faster, and support governments to better manage traffic flow.”
