    Default TomTom XXL

I have a TomTom XXL that I attempted to update the software for and performed a backup of before hand. After the update the maps are gone and trying to fix it using the HOME app forced a backup but instead of making a second backup it overwrote the first losing the backup of the maps.

Now the unit works fine, except it doesn't have maps. It had the USA, Canada & Mexico maps but the 945 of the same map doesn't fit. Formatted the unit has 1.84GB of space, and currently only 1.74GB free.

Any suggestions on what maps to use. Need to get this working again for my mother.

Thank you for the quick reply. It says to use 945.6174 or 945.6175, but there isn't either of those versions for a USA, Canada and Mexico maps. I see one for USA and Canada but it is 1.95GB, which is bigger than the space I have. I also see one for just the USA for a 2GB device which is 1.7GB but then we lose Canada and mexico. She lives driving distance from Canada and does go and my brother lives near Mexico and she goes to visit.

Not sure what I should be doing here.

Technically (and according to TTHome), you should be using the USA, Canada and Mexico v945.6245 which comes in at around 1875.11 MB as you say so you could try deleting most of the cspeech files from this to shrink it a bit & also you may need to trim your voices folder down too.

Alternatively you can use 945.6256 Android version which should be smaller as it has no cspeech files see [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I tried shrinking the 6245 but it wouldn't boot.

I had a similar issue with Europe maps. In the end I had to give up and load invidual country or North/South/West etc maps for where I wanted to go. Unfortunately the XXL wasn't built with enough storage to take the maps it's supposed to work with. If you're lucky, you may be able to scrape some more by removing license files and other stuff for languages you will never use.. but I'm guessing you've already done that.

Does she need all of the Canada, USA and Mexico map? As others have said the combined map is too big for the XXL but you might be able to go for something like the 945 "Western US and Canada" (469mb) or "Eastern US and Canada" (806mb) along with the "Southern US and Mexico" (620Mb)

Might mean installing both maps and switching part way through but even I couldn't drive from Canada all the way down to Mexico in one uninterrupted drive.
