Default Screen Mount suggestions for 750.....help needed!!

I have a Go750 but this is not a query about the GPS unit itself.......it's the shoddy screen mount which comes as standard with the GPS.

The method used for gripping the sucker to the screen is by twisting the rubber ring (pictured). [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Possibly the worst designed mount i've ever seen as road vibration works the ring loose and suddenly the GPS drops off the screen......usually when negotiating a busy section of road as has often happened with me. Normally i would simply use a cheap £1.50 lever mount off ebay which really do give a solid fix similar to one of these [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] but as you can see from the original mount, TT have pulled a crafty trick by incorporating the power plug into the mount itself to stop you from using after market mounts.

Any 750 owners who have experienced the same problems as me and what did you do to solve it? I've tried using tape but that gives way in the heat after so long. Any other ideas/suggestions would be most appreciated.

The original mount normally works fine provided a) the screen is clean, and b) you wet/damp the rubber suction first

PS that ebay mount will never fit the back of an x40 or x50 anyway

Thanks though must admit that doesn't exactly fill me with much confidence....not to mention the price. £25 for a little bag of plastic beads!!

Can't really get a screen much 'cleaner' than a brand new one...which mine was last year! Plus i clean it with AutoGlym Glass cleaner. The sucker itself isn't the problem....it's the crazy method used to secure it by twisting that ring which as i said in my post, works loose from road vibration then the entire lot just drops off the windscreen.

I know that ebay mount won't fit. I put that up to illustrate the type of mount TT should have used. To make matters worse TT incorporated the power into the mount purposely to stop anyone using a decent after market mount. I've got a couple of those £1.50 mounts and once levered on....they don't budge a millimetre. The old model TT's used that type of lever action mount and of course, the power supply went into the GPS unit itself and not in the mount....so if you did want a different kind of mount you could buy whatever you wanted. It's the same age old issue with "progress"......eg my old TT had an internal 2gb drive so i had ample space for any map downloads. Before i could download new maps on the 750 i needed to go and buy a card!

This is what they call "progress"!!

Normally when you twist the ring it kinda over-locks/clicks when as tight as it goes?

    Yes that's correct.

I had the 750 from brand new and must admit when i first saw the method used to secure the sucker to the screen, it didn't fill me with much confidence. Drive a few uneven/rough roads as i often do touring in East European countries and any 750 owner will soon experience exactly the same as me!

    1) avoid East Europe
    or
    2) stay on the tarmac
    or
    3) take along a navigator who can read a "real" road map
