    Question Formated Tomtom

    Hi,

Total newbie here. I have a Tomtom go 520. I had problems with the screen not responding to touch. Before discovering this forum, I listened to other so called in the knows and was lead to believe that it could be a software issue. I tried all the usual stuff like factory reset, reloading software through tomtom home etc. none of these things worked. Then someone suggested formatting the device and reloading everything from scratch.

I formatted the device and wiped everything from the device and reconnected to tomtom home. It finds the device, says it needs updates and does its thing. Still the screen was not responding.

I bought myself and new screen and fitted the screen. Now the screen works, so my fault all along was a faulty screen. Now I have a device with a working screen but whenever I turn on the device, it comes on, asks for date, time and which voice I want but that's as far as it goes. The next screen I get is no maps found

Please any advice would be really appreciated.

    Start over again.
Format (quickly) the internal drive as FAT32.

Then download the last navcore for your device:

Copy the content of the archive into the device.

For the Loquendo TTS voices, download them from the following links (chose the language you need/like):

Deploy the content of each voice archive into the directory "LoquendoTTS".

Maps have to be restored too, off course.

Hi, You mention "Deploy the contents of each voice into the directory LoquendoTTS"
I have been struggling with this Loquendo file for ages and it has initially two directories... 'bin' and 'lib'. The main directory Loquendo only has the licenceCode7.tx file and the default7.session file.
The bin directory has all the voice data in.
I also have a Data Directory containing two further Directories Voices and Language.
I have messed with these for ages and at most can only ever get two voices to appear in the "Change Voice" option on the TT under "preferences"
What actually is the right contents for each of these as they vary and I can't seem to get a happy mix??

That's why I was proposing you to start over from scratch and not to reuse any old backup, except for maps restore.
The "data" directory you mention is something I've never seen. I don't have it and everything works nicely on my Go920.

There are two types of official TomTom navigation voices:

    - Standard voices that come pre-installed on every TomTom device. They are recorded voices and give you spoken instructions for your route.
Standard voices are stored into the "voice" directory.

    - Computer voices that use text-to-speech technology to read street names, incoming text messages, weather information, etc.
Computer voices are stored into the LoquendoTTS directory.

Each of the Loquendo archives I linked above has the correct folder tree which is needed to install into the LoquendoTTS directory. As already said, just deploy them into LoquendoTTS.
This is how the LoquendoTTS directory shall look like for a correct installation:

Thanks for your detailed reply, however I made a new TTS folder and setup like you suggested but doesn't work. I probably have not got the sub directories correct or the right files loaded. Under the main LoquendoTTs folder I made one called "bin" and four different folders named after each computer voice...kate-Simon-etc etc. Included all the contents of each voice as supplied by you download links.
    So it looks like this:
    LoquendoTTS
    bin
    Simon
    Kate
    Dave
    Susan
This is obviously incorrect as no voices are available when starting the TT. Only normal voices as per the Voices folder in the main TT directory.
Would you mind just detailing it out again as a bit hard for me to follow

Kaygill, until you keep on adding or deleting directories, I think you'll hardly sort this out.

By the way, a Loquendo voice archive like the ones I linked above has got a directory structure like the following:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

which is perfectly similar to the Loquendo directory tree, other than for the "bin" folder.

    Therefore, my suggestion is, again:
    1. delete everything inside the LoquendoTTS directory, except the "bin" directory, which includes only the file "LTTS7AudioBoard.so".
    2. start deploying into the LoquendoTTS directory the voice archives above (the Loquendo voices you want to install): the correct folder structure will be created automatically as the files get extracted.

Once you've installed all the voices you mentioned, you should have something like this:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

@Schwan1, as for the LoquendoTTS engine version goes:
    - I am still using version 6.5, because this is NOT compressed, and unloads the processor from further work. I have got a Go920. As I have no RAM and no space issues either, I don't see the point in going for the version 7.
    - feel free to use version 7, if you like. You might save some space on the device memory. The directory structure will, again, derive automatically from the voice-archive folder tree.
