4gb sd card for carminat can you or not?

I have been reading quite a bit on here regarding the tt carminat. I have just bought a new Clio with a 2gb sd card..I wanted to put the European maps on this..Now I know I can not, my card is too small..Quite expensive to go through tt £105 I think..I have read where I can not buy a new sd card transfer everything over from the backup...I read where it says no map installed! Anyway...I bought the new card and I tried it...lol I can not understand why it does not see the new sd card...
I copied the original card with xcopy...then copied it back on to the new card with xcopy, just in case it missed hidden files...still it does not see it....is there no way at all of upgrading this satnav without going through tt...Or am I wasting my time...I am very new to the carminat side of this...played with the truck bit for my hubby...Thats about it really...
