Installing to SD card?

I've been told that if I get a SD card for my TomTom 730 and put it in I can install a new navcore and maps to the SD card without it wiping my original Nav and maps on the Tom Tom it's self. Is this true?

Haven't got it yet, coming Thursday so I'm just trying to get thing sorted and ready.

That is true...
anyway make backup internal memory with explorer (not with tomtom HOME) be sure all hidden files copy too
