No one can explain that except the gentlemen from TomTom  We can only guess...
But what is obvious - routing is better with online access. And very obviously - obligatory in special purpose cases.

The original version of the program is set to search online by default. The mod version is just an added option.Quote:

Online routing (from TomTom forum):
Appearently online routing just means that TomTom cloud services are used to calculate the route instead of using of calculating it on the iPhone/Android itself. Also, in order to limit data traffic the app only downloads route incidents in a circle of 150 kilometers. Online routing considers all incidents on your route.
Cheers,
@milosgbg,
It is a rolling 50 KM radius that will update as you get near the edge and update again with another 50 KM radius.
Anything over that say 150 KM is a waste of time to be able to download.
Buy the time you get anywhere near where you are going traffic conditions would of changed for the better or for the worst.
With TomTom getting update it will correct the route as you near any problems and send you that data.....
That being said it all depends on how quick traffic control from the area send this info out to TomTom or any other GPS app or Stand alone unit.
May time that info has not been received before it is to late and has nothing to do with the TomTom app and you are stuck in traffic or an accident has happen on your route.
Again this has nothing to do with this TomTom Mod when it comes to any of traffic functions.
That has to be taken up with TomTom and they are not going to increase the radius to 150 Km or more.
That would be a lot of data having to be downloaded each time you get closer and closer to your destination.
TomTom is not going to do that.
Plus you can always see your traffic long before you turn on your TomTom app by looking on google map or Mydrive from TomTom.
It will show you all the traffic at and given time across your whole trip.
But it will not help you an hour into your drive because things will change. They change all the time.
So keeping with a 50 KM rolling radius is the best bet.
It is not perfect but better than nothing.......
Does the TomTom NDS app support offline red light and speed cameras?
Where are the maps on the android device? As there doesn't seem to be any option to specify where to install them. SD or Internal. As I would prefer to have them installed on the MicroSD card as there is more space there.
I've also noticed when the software switches to night mode the contrast also drops as well making the program very dim and hard to read. Any ideas how to stop this in night mode or is this just a feature of the software that can't be changed?
@greg1,
All GPS apps have the settings to show only daytime colors or switch automatically as Magnetron has pointed out under Maps and Display.
See screen shot under Settings:
Spoiler: Settings Maps and Display
That being said also check your Display setting on the phone.
If you have it set to Automatic it will dim all the time.
Turn off Automatic and set your phone to the brightness that is good for you for both daytime and nighttime.
I have TomTom set to daytime always and Display set to Automatic on the phone.
This works for me.
You will have to test for yourself what fits your needs.
After launch it I don't get a notification that there are map updates available.
When I go to settings > maps >downloaded maps I see there are updates ( almost every two days, small updates ) and I have to download
them manually, that works.
In settings > IQ Maps > Connectivity : wi-fi & mobile are all checked.
When I stop the app and restart again I have a notification on top that the maps are updated successfully.
So, no warning for map updates I suppose ?
Hi.
Testing latest build of thread with device XT1040 with LOS 14.1: download content and display maps ok BUT it exits / crashes when planing route with no error message! Memory management issues ?
Any idea ?
Thanks
You should ask this question to the ROM creators.
Although I am a fan of modified systems, very often they are not and cannot be perfect.
In addition, it is an old device, relatively weak and with very little memory for today's terms (1GB).
A weekly Map update on Monday in at least Western-Europe, manually check for map updates. :dance2::dance2:
