If you use a device without external storage, root is required.
For devices with external memory, you must ensure that there is not enough space in the internal memory for an installation and Android will automatically outsource TT to SD.
Then you can also see the content of NDS.

@klausdiemaus,
I have 64gb on both my memory and SD card.
It is not important to have access to any of the TomTom folders.
Do not use person POI's on TomTom NDS the app works great no problems at all been testing as far back at v1.0.6

Even if there are user's who want to have personal POI's the fact of the matter is TomTom is not going out of their way to open up the app so everyone can see all the folders.
They have their reasons for that and you are not going to make them move on it. So like I said there are some smartphone where you can see the folders to add you personal POI's and most others can not. There is enough info at the TomTom forum where they will not support any of it.
It is to bad that there are user's who want to add personal POI's but can not. There is not much any of us and do to change that.
If the user who really needs to have his or her personal POI's then they need to use other GPS apps that are far more friendlier to use.
The TomTom NDS app is not patched nor does it need to be patched it works out of the box when you install it.
What more can user want when this app is not even open to the Europe market.
It was made for the South American market to work with Toyota using SmartDeviceLink (SDL) technology.
The TomTom Navigation App is available at no extra cost to Toyota drivers in Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay – on both iOS and Android™ phones.
When connecting the smartphone to the car, the driver can see the TomTom Navigation App, and interact with it directly on the car’s screen.
All the info is here:

I think enough has been said about this GPS app. You take it as is use it the way it is. If not then user's need to find some other GPS app that better fits their needs
But to keep going on and on about this app is just a waste of time at this forum.
It need to talked about at the TomTom forum and not here anymore.
