Default Sub categories for different gps systems

I'm a newbie but I have modified bmw sat navs before. So I'm used to messing around with update files etc.

I'm finding it confusing trying to modify my current IGO8 system purely as I don't know what updates are for my ststem.

It seems all updates for igo systems are bunched together. Why can't there be folders for all igo8 updates and another for igo8.3 and then primo etc etc.. just so it's easier to grab a file and update it and know that it's definitely for your gps system.

Huh? Each release are posted separately and has a version number. Where do you see "all updates for igo systems are bunched together?" There are two main sections for NNG products: iGO/Primo and NextGen. Map data are common to them both.

Additionally every thread has a prefix and icon for Android or Wince.
    More recent releases are sticky.

What I'm trying to Say for other newbies like myself is that things would be easier for those not in the know if there were folders rather than a mixed page of updates.
This was a suggestion. Under the "suggestions" page. And my question Was different but you've closed that for some reason.
Everyone has to learn. I've read and read things and it still isn't quite clear unless you know otherwise.
If I go into maps.. there is a list of updates.. now to me who is new to the page doesn't know what will work on my igo 8 system.
Will Igo primo stuff work? The same with .dem files etc. It was just an Idea that may help people go straight to what they want without worrying they're downloading the wrong stuff.

    Haha.. @ Catymag
I get the wince and android thing. What I worry about is igo8 and primo and nextgen. Are they all different. Or do all the files work across the board on one another. This is all I want to know. As I can see very few updates tagged as for "igo8"

Your cross posting from the other thread was deleted. iGO8 is old so there isn't going to be any new proggy releases. Your "recommendation" doesn't make any sense because:

NNG releases different products throughout the years (starting in 2006): iGO (including MyWay, iGO8, Amigo), Primo, NextGen. Each product lines are different but there are some share functionality
    1. Most configuration inside sys.txt are same
    2. Most files under content folders are common (exception is global_cfg.zip) Map data are common from providers such as HERE (formerly Navteq) or TomTom (formerly TeleAtlas) Unless your proggy is "fully cracked", you need license for it. Some types such as *.fda (driver alert) and *.fds (curve alert) only works in certain version of proggy with correct license.
    3. Files files under skins and ux folders works for the version and resolution they are created for
    4. *.exe, *.dll and *.apk are different
    5. Files under lang and voice folders are either for iGO/Primo or NextGen (don't mixed)
    6. TTS voice engines are little complicated. On WinCE, either Loquendo (old) or Nuance. On android, either Loquendo, Nuance, VolcalizerEx(2), or android based
    7. TTS voice configuration under voice folders are specific for the voice engine you're using

''Free'' iGO install is not easy, we have a Tutorial section and a section with ready install packs.
But being a beginner must read a lot and learn, because every OS, device, program has its own setting and configuration and nothing is really ''ready''.
O4i explained it perfectly in his post above.

I beieve that grouping is a bit confusing and too detailed. Let me explain. Is there really a need to have so many folders for old or unpopular igo systems? and, is it really necessary to have IGO at the beginning of each subfolder under Igo section? I mean, maps are maps under garmin section but under Igo section, they are igo maps. why?

People come from Google and get forum sections urls from Google, the more they are detailed the better is for newcomers.

What is unpopular for you is popular for others
Both iGO software sections are popular:

Nextgen sections have almost 4000 posts.

IGO Nextgen Easy Installation Ready packs
and IGO Primo Easy Installation Ready packs
are quite new but almost 1000 posts each.

Garmin sections are old (2009) and were born when in previous forum, iGO and TT sections were not present.
Changing section titles is not good for SEO ranking, so they won't change.
