Q: How does Nuvi 760 treat POI's (*.gpi files)?
On the Nuvi 760 flash I have a selection of accumulated POI files under \garmin\poi directory. Each has a different name and a gpi suffix.
Will the Nuvi merge the information on all the files or will it use just a single file (which one?)
Are file names significant?
Hi guy's I have question here that you might be able to help me out with....
Basically I want to know will Garmin know I'm using a non-genuine/hacked/call it what you like map if I send my device back for repairing ?
I've been using my nuvi 265w for over a year now without updating the actual device software and just for the sake of it I decided to update the software last week and since then the voice (text to speech) is all messed up and in being muffled and not able to fully understand it.
I was in touch with Garmin and tried Master reset ect... but still the same so they told me to send the device to them to be looked at.
So when I bought my nuvi the map was something like 2009.10 and now I'm using the latest UK and Ireland map 2011.10 which I unlocked myself.
Just wondering if Garmin will know I unlocked this Map myself or should I delete the map from my device before I send it off ?
Focus, it's a long shot but have you considered the following, to fix the software update problem:
1. restoring the *.vpm files on the garmin/voice directory
2. re-running the software webupdate - perhaps the second trial will fix the problem?
Hi elig99, and thanks for the reply!
Yes I did try re-running the software update via webupdate but still the same, but NO I didn't try restoring the *.vpm files in the Garmin voice dir.
How would I restore the .vpm files ?
EDIT: If you mean after the software update via the webupdate, yes I tried to update the voices but there was no update available. I'm using the british English Voice Female but I tried the Male too but still the same issue.

Focus, if you search this forum for "voice" you will hit a thread called "Garmin Voice files thread ,official and customized" with all the voice files.
Regarding your original question, I guess that you did not take a backup of your original Nuvi before starting to updtae anything on it? (and from which you could restore even old maps). Anyway I vote "remove the map file" before sending to the lab
Hi there, for the past few days, I have beeen reading up on the various tutorials posted and I have been able to install City Navagator Italy into the patched version of mapsource, generate an unlock code using JetMouse, and upload the Italy map to my Garmin Nuvi 265W device.
the map is stored on the device, and I can scroll over and view it on the GPS, but when I try to enter in any info such as Country or city, the device cant find it.
Is there is something I am missing? along with sending the map to the device, am I supposed to send something else using mapsource or some other program?
This is a great site, and the articles posted by Catymag and other users have been so helpful, so thanks!
EDIT: I was actually using the LAND navagator map..... I put on a different map of Italy and it works! now when I search for Italy under country, it appears.

Q: I have a nuvi 760. What is the max size for the SD card?
I have used the 2GB with no problems direct from the PC card reader. I have used a 4GB, but I had to format the card in the nuvi and now the PC does not recognize the card. So in the nuvi unit I can see 4GB but not in the PC. Have anybody tried 8GB SD card in any Nuvi with SD cards? (Not the micoSD)
Your PC card reader probably doesn't support SDHC cards and reads only SD up to 2GB. Just buy new one, they are cheap.
Nuvi can read SDHC, size shouldn't be a problem.
