Very curious. Using the Universal Patch every time Basecamp opens, one of the maps (2010 E32 Mex), is identified in a popup as locked, and shows as Unauthenticated in Manage Maps....Previous versions of BC did not do that. Mapsource shows the map as Unlocked. After using the 4.2.5 patch now in post 1, the map is shown as unlocked with no popups as it should....

So there must be a subtle difference in the specifically modified patched exe and the universal..

The universal patch Unauthenticated issue really is just an annoyance since mapsource works.

There are many maps in BC/Mapsource Program Data\Garmin\Maps listed and the only thing that is obvious is the E32 is in a different directory, but at least one other map is also in yet another directory and shows as Unlocked (as expected).

    Thx for the specific patch

    A couple of newbie questions....

    - How is the patched version different from the normal version? Just wondering as I downloaded Basecamp from the garmin site as a free program...

    - After installing the version downloaded from Garmin, I am only able to see the base map (little detail). When I connect my nuvi 205W now I can see the detailed map. I copied the map gmapprom.img from my nuvi to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps. However when the nuvi is disconnected the detail map does not show in Basecamp, just the base one. What can I do to have the map show up without having the nuvi connected?

    Thanks in advance...

You must download GMAP folder for your maps (CNEUNT 2014.10 ALL and 2014.40 ALL for example) and install its on PC. After this you do not need Nuvi as connected device and may compare this map for your route!

Hi Catymag and thanks for your reply. I read the link about creating a virtual SD drive in order to see the map in Basecamp. So it's not just a case of placing the map in a specific folder (such as C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps) then? The map must be stored in a virtual SD to be visible in Basecamp? Or does it work if stored on a real SD card?

Is this related to the patched version of Basecamp - ie, does the patched version get around this restriction, or what other features does the patched version allow that the normal Basecamp does not?

    Thanks again for your help

Real sd/Garmin/gmapsupp.img is ok, but MS flag must be 0

Thanks Catymag, I shall try setting the MS flag to 0 and see if I can get my map working in Basecamp.

However, even when the MS flag is 0, the map still be in either a virtual SD or real SD card to work - its not possible to have it in a normal folder on the HDD (such as C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps) ?

no, basically BC is made to read gmapsupp.img files from devices or gmapsupp.img files from devices sd, to read from C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps, you must have the pc version installed

Ah, so that is what Giomen mentions in post #13 above!

I didn't realise there was a separate version of the maps for use with Basecamp on a pc. When I installed Basecamp it created the folder C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps but it was empty. I tried copying the map from my nuvi to this folder but it didn't show up in Basecamp.

I shall look into getting the pc version of the maps. It would be good to have the maps available on my laptop - although I guess storing the normal map on a SD card or else with the nuvi plugged in is okay too.
