no, i didn't run it as admin. just the normal way soon as i open the apps. i just lost the connection with gpsgate again. as i renewed all the profiles. this would take me another whole day to get it back connected with internal gps.

edit. just checked the unit now. since it is running windows xp, i don't know how to run the program as an admin. not the way how it is in win7.

Hope some one can help... First off nice board with ALOT of good information and help!!!

I recently had GarminMobilePC 5.00.60 and the maps when navigating were smooth, no lag, not choppy. I update to this version GarminMobilePC 5.00.70g and the maps were very choppy when navigating, it would move forward then back, forward then back. I reinstalled, same thing. Went back to GarminMobilePC 5.00.60 and the map was smooth, not choppy when navigating... Is there are reason why this update would cause this? I even went back to GarminMobilePC 5.00.70g, thought maybe bad install, but nope the same thing. For me doesn't matter about using .60, I just don't like on the map where the zoom in and zoom out panel is at, it shows it in a panel cutting off the map by about an inch on the right side of the screen. GarminMobilePC 5.00.70g doesn't have that and why I would like to try and solve the choppy map issue. thanks for the help!!!

Welcome to GPSPower. Are you using a basemap with your .70 installation? Those symptoms can happen if using GMPC with only a detail map.

Thanks of the welcome! On .60 I did not and worked flawlessly, then after reading the board from the new .70g post and needing a basemap I downloaded Garmin.WW.Autoroute.DEM.Basemap.NR.3.00_20090129 (gmapbmap.img) and then the latest Garmin CN North America NT 2014.10 Unlocked IMG Maps (d/l from torrent) and just extracted the USA-Hawaii and placed gmapsupp.img and the gmapbmap.img in the GarminMobilePc directory which is on the root of the C: drive placed the 2 files in the root of GarminMobilePc directory (I am on a Surface Pro (Windows 8))and when I open Garmin PC and go to tools area to manage maps they are both there. So did I do something wrong, or place the wrong files? Do i need to do anything (config) with these 2 maps in the same area? Thanks for the guidance

That basemap is maybe too big. You can try using the small Garmin basemap recommended for GMXT, it's old [2007] but may overcome the 'choppiness'. The link's in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], or you could remove DEM from V3 or V5 basemap using GMapTool. The other possible problem is how you 'extracted' USA & Hawaii from the full NA image. Did you use GMapTool to take parts from the full NA map image? If you only want a part of a map it's better to use BaseCamp/MapInstall or even MapSource [getting a bit old though] to take the parts you want from a gmap folder and that way create a correctly compiled image.

Default Garmin Mobile PC says maps are there but they aren't

I had to reinstall Garmin Mobile PC, I have version 5.00.60g. I was able to install without problem and I thought I added maps without problems but View Map says "no map". Under Map Sets it DOES show "Detailed maps C:\GarminMobilePC\" and when I click on that it shows "CN North America NT 2010.10. C:\GarminMobilePC\ 1173.8MB" which is what I had loaded.

Anyone have an idea as to why it can see the version of map installed but not actually find the map?

Man, I read this thread over and over and I was 95% sure that's what I was missing but I did a search of my backup for the gmapbmap.img file and it didn't seem to exist so a part of me thought even though I've read about it over and over somehow I never had it to begin with? I don't know. Thanks a million catymag. I'm going to go sweep up the hair I pulled out of my head now.
