Is it still true, until now, that the 3790 cannot display modified JCV's?

That says 3770 though? I'm basing my question with my old post [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] . Neil mentioned there that the 3790 can't display Asian JCV files, right?

Right Kevin, but Caty's correct about ASIAN 37x0 being able to use this tool [i.e. SG/MY 3790, TWN 3770 etc will show other Asian region VCJ files if they are modified. You didn't mention in post #104 above that you've got a US model and all US/EU 37x0 will show a blank screen. If you convert it to US/EU 34x0 it should work with modded Asian JCVs work but your mileage may vary.

He says US 3790 cant display patched Asian tool, correct
(37xx devices share the same firmware, so no differences in 3770 and 3790 Taiwan in displaying JCV.)

    Edit: Neil was faster

Oops, sorry about that I should've been more clearer. Yes, I use a US 3790. Alright, I'll convert it to a 34xx firmware first and see how this goes.

    Thanks!

I completely missed the point that a blank screen is also a parsing error like crash error.

    Confirmed so far:

All Asian fw units seem capable of correctly displaying another Asian locale's patched jcv.
    US 765 shows black screen
    US 1xxx have crash error.
    US 2xx5 display patched correctly.
US 3xx7 have crash error [also therefore probably dezl 760].
US xx [tested 40/50/42/52] display patched correctly.

    Further testing now done:
US fw 2350, 2460 [also therefore probably dezl 560], 3790 all cannot parse Asian file, they display blank screen [almost certainly a generic problem with all 2xx0 and 37x0 series US/EU].
US fw 3490 & 3590 display pirate screen with original, correctly display the patched file.
    US/EU 2xx7/2xx8 have crash error.

Tested Fix for US 3790 is to convert to US 3490.
    Yep.
Patched or not-patched JCVs, my 2557LMT (US)
    - shutdown (at a point where a JCV was about to be displayed on a map) when using any of JCV files from Dual Garmin City Navigator Thailand 2015.10
    - showed very fuzzy/unusable JCV images when using any of JCV files from Thai-only Garmin City Navigator Thailand 2015.10. With the original (not patched) JCV, I can recognize the "Pirating Copy" image based on image pattern and colors despite fuzziness and unreadable texts.

Should there be only one JCV in the system\jcv folder? If I have multiple, how would the Garmin device know which one to associate with the map that is currently installed?

You can have multiple unrelated JVC files if you wish provided that none is for an earlier map of the same series and they are for different maps. ie. TH won't interfere with SG/MY and AU 2015.40 HERE won't interfere with NA 2015.40 HERE and vice versa, but AU 2015.40 HERE file might cause problems if left in the folder when using AU 2016.10 HERE for instance. Otherwise, the unit will simply know which JCV file is associated with which map and choose accordingly.

Gotcha. And this is regardless of the filename of the JCV file, right? The device probably associates a specific JCV file to its associated map "partner" through its file header information probably?
