It mean that card is locked or blocked, have protection against reading CID

Maybe your linux updated some files which dont allow to read CID,,i allways get message "new updates available" but I never update system
There is no kind of such protection : /reading of CID/.
As far as I know it is impossible to block the access to the CID register , even if the card is password protected.
It is a matter of Linux or Windows , where they do not initialize the card until it cannot be unlocked. However Linux with a patched core can bypass this procedure,so there is only the content of the card not accessible. But CSD and CID registers are readable.

I have seen someone on ebay selling a copy of the card. His add is removed. I have a device which can be used to see the CID of a lock card. I use it for RNS315 cards. Dont know if it can be used for these cards also.

I bought a lot of cards for rns315.
I locked the cards, but after that I can read the CID.
It worked on every cards... Yes, the SD card icon isn't there on the left, but works.
BUT Some of them was really interesting!
I have had a few cards I copied the files, locked, used, unlocked, than I dont need to format the card, because all the files was there!!! - In windows I seen the files after unlock!!!
I dont know the brands (((

Anyway, with my Laptops (Dell E6420, Dell E6320) I can read the CIDs if the cards are locked or not locked as well.
I downloaded the Ubuntu linked in the RNS315 forum.
I hope it helps a little.
