    I am using a CD with ubuntu 16-4. I boot ubuntu with the CD.
    I have not updated anything.

    @ cristobal72 - do not need CID for this moment, only files/image of the V8 sdcard.

    I would have done it another way. I would first have bought the card (not an original one) from a supplier of ebay. After cloning the content of the SD-card i would have formatted it with a nokia Phone with symbian as operating system. Maybe its even possible to format it with windows. After formatting the card its probably possible to read the CID with Linux by using the evoplus CID software. There must be a good workarround. I know a lot of people selling a good working copy of the card.

    On ebay there is no sd cards V8 and there wont be until somebody will unlock SD (like yours) and get CID out
    After that everybody will have on sale this card. It was the same with RNS 315 .. this system comes original also locked
