    V oice Transfer purchase Garmin voices to new device

    I bought the SpongeBob voice from Garmin a while back which was downloaded to my device from Garmin. My kids love this when we go on trips.

    I purchased a newer model and asked Garmin how to transfer the voice from the old device to the new one before deleting it and selling the old one.

    The answer was simple: Unfortunately this is not possible. When downloading the voice you are associating this to one device and an unlock code is generated which cannot be transferred over. This is due to the terms and conditions which allow software to be used on one device. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

    Any knows of a way to accomplish this as after all I paid for the voice and want o transfer it so it will still be used on one device only.

    There is a SpongBob.vpm SpongBob.unl and SpongBob.gma file on my device

    Which device do you have?
    Can you post the unlock code (better by private message), if there is no need for the gma file, its possible to generate a new unlock code for the new device.
    For the new device the unit ID is also necesary (also better by PM)

    probably you can get it with an hex editor-
    the unit id is in device.xlm or in tools/settings/system/info, but it depends on devices-

    You have to navigate to get to the good.

    @raycomp

    Perhaps you could try this simpler way to see if it works or not:
    Backup a working voice file (eg, English_British_.vpm) in your new Garmin device's folder \Voice and move it to other locations.
    Copy SpongBob.vpm to this \Voice folder, then rename it as the removed voice file's name (eg, English_British_.vpm).
    Select the voice again to see if it works.
    If not working, revert back by putting back the moved voice, it would not affect the system.

    It's to bad we have to have 10 posts before seeing the links. Since I'm new to Garmin it will be along time before I have the required posts.
    No help here. Thanks anyway.

    If he's using an ad blocker he may in fact not be seeing it. However, that is no excuse for him to be lazy. Your signature as well as the signatures of others on the forum clearly mention the new requirements to see links. If he had used the search engine the site has he would have found the thread where you mention the new plugin.

    You can't please everybody. Even when you provide a solution that makes things easier on them, people like this guy choose to bitch and whine. Perhaps if he actually read the forum he'd know about the Like button. But, that requires patience from people who think they're entitled to things without earning them.

    @Strephon
    Don't hold back, give it to him straight! (ie Wow! I wish i'd said that....!). Actually, I'd go one further. If new users can't be bothered familiarising themselves with such easily obtained information and then incorrectly complain that there is "no help here", then we shouldn't want them here. Delete their carping useless posts, card them, if they do it again ban or delete their accounts and if they do really wish to participate then they can start all over again by re-registering. The next time they may try harder. I'll help anyone if i can here, provided they at least make an attempt to help themselves. I know you, Caty in particular, and many others feel the same.

    Sorry Caty, OT i know. Usual invite, delete this if it's unhelpful, no offence taken.
