thumbup Kendwood DNX 5330BT - Map Update

    Hello Folks,

Need your expert advise and guidance for updating the Map and the garmin software on the Kenwood DNX 5330BT HU.

    01. How to update the Garmin navigation software on the Head Unit? I am currently running a pretty old version from 2013.
    02. How to update the maps on the SD card? and Ensure that my Junction view can work?
    a. Currently on the SD card there is a Garmin folder and inside I have have GMAPSUPP.img file which is also 2013.20 (malaysia/singapore map) and nothing else.

    Background

DNX5330BT was a used set bought from my friend and he mentioned that the map on the SD card is from garmin but unlocked ones.

One more Question, Lets say if I purchase City Navigator® Southeast Asia NT Part Number: 010-D0974-00, will my above 2 questions will be addressed?

Thanks in advance for your guidance to update my kenwood dnx5330bt with latest version of software and map.

    Cheers,
    ghosam

    Hi ghosam,

    I also own a DNX 5330BT.
    Updating is fairly easy.
Most of the information you need are right here in this forum.

I shall help you on the first 2 questions:

    1) Updating the software of the Garmin requires you to update the software for the DNX 5330BT as it comes in one update file.
Download the update file from Kenwood website.
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
Download the update guide as well.
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
The update will take quite a while, so you need to keep your engine running until the update completes.

    2) For map updating, you will just need to follow the exact folder placement as what you currently have on your external micro sd card.
You will see a "Garmin" folder when you first view the micro sd card.
Inside the "Garmin" folder is where you need to place your map's gmapsupp.img file.
Your junction view file goes directly into the JCV folder.

*Note: Do note that not all map IMG are named as GMAPSUPP.IMG.
Some are named GMAPPROM.IMG and etc.
You can get your updated maps from here... [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

You can unlock the maps using gimgunlock tool.

Updated maps links thanks to kenta2.

    Hello Hantu-Raya,

First of all thanks for your help I was struggling for almost 9 months without a solution. Now its fixed and I am very happy for that.
Updating the software was fairly easy as you said but one thing to take note
You have to make sure that your thumb drive is FAT32 formatted. Else issues with reading the firmware file. (I used NTFS first didn't work but FAT32 did the trick)
Updating the MAP was exactly as you mentioned above, but I had to change the file name from GMAPPROM.IMG to GMAPSUPP.IMG (remember to unlocked it twice).

Just another question, and probably its off topic. Did you change the splash screen image of your kenwood DNX5330BT?

Oops forgot to mention, A big thanks to Kenta2 as well for having the latest map available for the community.

Good Job Kenta2, keep up the good work

Good Job Hantu-Raya, keep helping newbie like me

Hello everyone, I would like to give a simple idea to serve all users of the forum, it would be great to clarify wich kenwood model works with this method and listed in a header at the first post.

To contribute, I want to advise that I could update a DNX5710BT with this method; changing the gmapsupp.img of the original sd card to the new map (renaming it if necessary to gmapsupp.img). Previously, I made a backup of the SD card.

To update POIs I made the following method:
    1. Format a USB pendrive in FAT32
    2. Create a Garmin / POI folder at the root of the pendrive and paste the .gpi files into the POI folder
    3. Then we turn on the Kenwood and place it in Standby mode
    4. Then enter GPS mode (NAV button);
    5. Once the gps navigator is open connect the USB pendrive and wait for the reading;
    6. Confirm the import of the POI into the internal memory.

Thank you all, I hope it serves everyone
It would be great if the kenwood models that works with this updating maps method are listed in a header at the first post like it was made in this one:

    Regards!
