@canadavenyc, I am running also Primo 2.4 (ver. 9.6.13.267029), which version you are running? We have similar hardware too, mine is also a Chinese headunit. The 1st time I deleted the poi_visbilities.txt it DID displayed the branding icons but most of them were the wrong icons. Then the next time I started the program, I got again the error message.
As I said, I did try some other Branding.zip files and they all worked fine except they mostly had European icons. Obviously, there are some basic problems with his branding.zip file.

Sorry, bad typing. What I meant was It has to be the 2.4 that isn't working with my branding. I've taken a look at the branding you showed me, and the other European one that I used to use, and they have a slightly different filename and structure within the file.
Mine has a file for each category,
Their's has ONE file for ALL categories.
Mine has info for The icon.
Their's has info for the icon on, off, disabled.
They have a file JUST for the "$poi_mapdistant.bmp" that was mentioned in an earlier post.
I can see the differences now, and as mentioned, i know that the skin i use is not compatible with 2.4, and apparently my branding isn't either.I'm goin on holidays in a couple days, so I may not come up with a new/fixed version before then, but i definitely would like to tackle this problem. you guys have been using European icons this long, what's another 2 weeks? :D

I was getting only the "failed to open $poi_mapdistant.bmp ...". Most of generic icons that I saw were wrong however they were NOT randomly wrong but grouped wrong, however some very specific icon were correct.
After you fix the failed to open problem the best way to check all your icons is to display a map of a shopping mall that you are familiar with and verify all the icon you see.

did you delete the poi_visibilities.txt from your saved folder? Basically there should be only around a dozen icons showing by default.

Hmmm....after using this branding.zip for a week or so now, I think there's some kind of issue, probably having to do with Primo 2.4 vs. Primo 2. I sometimes see a couple of icons (Tim Hortons and McDonalds are the ones I've seen so far, as well as a Shell station logo). However, I've driven through Halifax a couple of times now, and those remain the ONLY three icons I've seen. Plus, I could be wrong, but it seems to me that sometimes I've driven by a Tim Hortons and the icon doesn't show up. I haven't been looking for it, and only realize it after it's happened, so I could be wrong about that, so I'll try to keep a special eye out next time I go by one (or a McDonalds, for that matter).
But for sure I can say that the vast multitude of icons aren't showing up. I do have all the POI categories checked on in my settings, so I should be seeing plenty. I'm using Primo 2.4.
zzyzxroad I know you're on vacation, so when you get back, I'd be glad to help try to sort this issue with your assistance if you have the time.

I gave up on zzyzxroad branding, it clearly still needs a lot of work.
Here is a branding.zip [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] I found on line which has ALL the North America branding icons and it works perfectly on WinCE Primo 2.4 with 800x480 and 480x272 resolutions. Make sure you first delete the poi_visibilities.txt from your save folder and reselect all the categories of icons you want to display.
BTW, the reason that this branding.zip is fairly large is that it has tons of European icons as well. One problem with this branding file (at leat for US) is that the icons sizes are not uniform, some are too big and some too small.

It's clearly not working on the 2.4 as I've used this on 3 different systems without a problem. I'll try to work on a fix in the coming weeks. I tried installing the 2.4 on 2 devices but couldn't get it to run so I have to find a solution for that before I can fix my branding.

zzyzxroad,...
thanks for working on this.
I was also wondering too if you might of had a chance to be able to fix your branding for the North American region? This would be nice to have these to show instead of the lame default ones. :)
Cheers.
