Just trying to understand why some people prefer it - maybe I missed something! :-)

You mean a good version of Avic NextGen is better. Previous versions of NextGen are a joke. Even Avic have some problem, but it launched a lot faster now. Skin is anoher story: Pongo has a long way to go. I still preferred a good version of Primo+dimkaWa skin.
Most people (especially the newbie) preferred NextGen because of the cleaner (more consistent) UI. I don't like NextGen skin architecture where everything are bits and pieces. Primo skin was simple; one .zip file per skin. If something goes wrong you know where to look and debug. Since NextGen skin are scatterred via ux, it's very hard to find problems and fixed them. And NextGen is more resource intensive than Primo (not that it matter to most). I still enjoy playing with Amigo running on android 2.3 with 320x240 res.

NNG created NextGen as a solution to their branding for various car manufacturers. Components and functions are like lego blocks where they can mix and match to suit their needs. At the same time they revamp the licensing strategy where you need license not only for proggy but also functionality (ie map/poi/building/etc...)

Yes, I completely understand that everyone has different preferences. I'm just looking for the reasons *why* some people prefer NextGen over Primo/iGo8. 'm not suggesting that one app is "better" than the other - just looking for peoples opinions as to why *they* prefer one over the over.

To me, for my uses, the interface and overall look of NextGen just seems so "dumbed down" and actually harder to use because the hotspots are a lot smaller (which makes it harder to control in the car while driving). I do like the clean look of the cockpit interface, but like mentioned already, that can also be had with Primo as well via the use of skins (which, of course, so many more exist for Primo right now). NextGen almost looks "black and white" with very little use of color - no "pizazz"! Licensing in Nexgen is also a PITA and I still can't use all features like I can in Primo.

I just couldn't find anything in NextGen that would warrant a switch to it from Primo. But again, maybe I'm missing something - which is why I'm looking for some of the reasons why people prefer NextGen.

    I like both.

Primo has been a lot of time in service allows and it allows a high degree of customization.

For some newcomers, the initial configuration is a bit difficult, by comparison with other browsers.

For them, Nextgen its great for making a copy, starting and enjoying.

With addons, the solution is possible: you can run and enjoy them without an excessive consumption of space.

For most users non debutants, adjusting primo settings cousin "is an art" of enjoyment.

Time passes and in the future, when the great users enter, it will be magnificent.

When other companies that create browsers resolve the installation and adjustment of the screen without any intervention, automatically, following the market (Marsmalow) NNG is clear that can not afford to stand aside.

The current creative state of Nextgen is already pretty solid, but I think even when it is older, many will have a corner in their minds and in their devices for Primo..

    Greetings friends

I definitely agree that iGo navigation apps are light years ahead of the competition! I mean there really is no comparison in terms of the level of customization and just looks in general (the 3D map interface is simply awesome looking). Even my wife says "wow, that's a nice looking display" while driving in the car with me. Especially the nighttime 3D map display with the stars in the sky, etc... Also love the daytime 3D map display with the topographical representation (live the "topo" scheme in the daytime).

I must admit - I'm a sys.txt "tweaker"! :-) I can never leave well enough alone and am constantly testing new/different sys.txt options.

Even iGo 8, being as old as it is, is still better looking than other products released today!

@jtrosky the darkside need apprentice in the art of skinning, esp the lost one known as the dimkaWa, learn the way of it and may the skin be with you.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of the Dimka skins. To me, they look way too "busy" and things like text doesn't line up just right (fonts too big, etc). Just never liked it.

I like skins that keep the cockpit clear and free of all of the stuff that blocks a big portion of the sceen, but still adds features via long-presses, etc.

Personally, my favorite skins are Kikker (iGo 8) and Decent (Primo).

To each their own though! :-)

Turn on higher transparency. Those button background are not needed. DimkaWa skins are few skins that works correctly at low res (320x240,480x320) I never have issue with font size with it. Learning to mod skin really has nothing to do with what type your going to work on; they all manipulate .css and .lua files. You can make your own if you think it's better. Dimka stop working on his skin long ago. There are variants like dimkaWa that unfortunately is also disappearing. I believe dimkaWa and doupas skins have online TMC working, that is why I like to stick with it.
