    WIN CE installed igo on a double din car unit and it will not get a satelite fix

    Hi all,

    Firstly..I AM NEW! On the site and at doing stuff like this!

    I installed igo Primo after getting the software maps etc on here so a big thanks for that. Igo successfully loads up and get everything but the map appears to be running on a demo in London.(I am in the Uk and have UK maps). Unfortunately it seems that it is not getting a gps fix. It says at the top something like "Autodetecting gps receiver" and I have let it run and run but still no joy. I am sure this is an easy fix for those with the knowledge and brains! I have scoured the forums but not found anything.

    I am running Win ce 6 on a double din unit I got from a acompany called Carvision. I recently installed Wincepatch but this has been unreliable. I am also now unable to get into wince properly. When I open the device in Win ce I get the blue screen and the taskbar at the bottom but all the icons have dissapeared. I appreciate this is a navi/gps forum but someone may have come across this.

    Thanks in advance.

    (PS. I am running Aponia (Be-on-Road) that came with it and this works fine)

    Chances are there may be something listed in sys.txt (the iGo/Primo configuration/setup file in the root of your install folder) that is incorrect for your device and pointing Primo in the wrong direction.
    You can post the contents of your sys.txt and somebody here can dissect it for you, but since current versions of Primo do not actually require a sys.txt file at all to run (can be used only for customizing), and is quite good at detecting hardware on it's own, a quick fix may be to:
    1) Delete the Save folder in your main Primo folder
    2) Then rename sys.txt to systxt.old, restart Primo, walk through the setup (again) and see what happens

    As for your WinCE problem, I do not know what "Wincepatch" is, what it did, or why you perhaps should not have installed it.

    Thankyou Mike for those suggestions. Will give those a go. The wincepatch was basically a file I bough which is a patch for my WinCE to add a different user interface into my car unit to make it look more iphone style.

    Will update with results! Thanks again.

    I can't seem to find a sys.txt file. I have found a sys file which is just in the Primo folder on its own which says (Along with a lot of other stuff!):
    [gps]
    port=7
    baud=57600
    source="nmea"
    I will rename that and see what happens. Can't find a save folder either yet. Did say I was a newby...

    That's it. The '.txt' file extension is hidden on your device or your computer. Probably all file extensions. Those settings (plus who knows what else) are probably not correct for you.
    Rename it. Or copy it to your computer for safe keeping then delete it off the device.
    The save folder should have been created on the first successful start. Everything will be better if you find and delete it (it stores old settings..even if they are wrong).

    Ah, is starting to make sense. Will have another look through the files on the device when i can get into it properly as the win ce patch has caused it's own issues!

    Edit:
    Success!!! Just changed the sys file to say.old and deleted the saved folder. I wish I knew more of this stuff! Thanks very much, top man!

    Good!

    Congrats!
    And do not keep apologizing for being 'new' at this. Everybody was new at some time. You will learn more as you go along and try different things.

    Maybe this is the wrong place for what I would like to know?
    But I will try anyway.
    I need to know if the Primo2 version exe file is the latest .
    I am using Primo2.exe from 11/02/2013 size 10292
    If anybody know where there is a later version please let me know where to download it.
    My system is a Win ce with 800x480 size

    IMO there was only a Primo 1.2 or 2.0 for WinCE, the rest was customization through data.zip, skin and/or ux file

    Not right topic to ask and discussed already many times.

    It doesn't matter which version is the latest, the latest does not mean the best. Or the most reliable.
    And, there is no such thing as the best version or release The best for you is the one that best suits your device and purpose.
    There are highly recommended versions based on vast experience.
