A general belief is widespread that Here maps are better for western Europe. But in last few years, situation has turned.

I did not (and so far do not) share this general belief. In my previous comments in this thread, I gave several reasons for the why.
Never the less, I accept HERE or TomTom being better in certain parts of a country. As In Germany many say the south is better covered by HERE, north by TomTom.
I used (before this thread came out) TomTom maps in the black forest and Bavaria without problems, by the way.
On a side note, I drive around in western Europe, it's been a long long time since I have been in the east. Last time was 2005 or so, using TomTom maps (and program) in (previous) Eastern Germany. That experience fits the Germany allegation a few lines up.
edit:
Forgot to say, I have been in Eastern Europe (Poland, ...) but that was before GPS, somewhere in the second half of last century

maybe ..!! but from my experience a few months ago TomTom had a difficulty finding my work address in Amsterdam..??, HERE had no problem with it and I am using HERE ever since. May be TomTom has corrected the mistake, but for me ... ehmm... still having problem trusting it.

Really? For me the opposite.
I grew up very near to my present work spot. As long as I know there is a street that passes the entrance of the car park there which exists for almost 50 years. Yet Here does not know that street, so Here never is able to route me to work. Imagine!
TomTom knows that street and even knows the internal car park pavings. Here doesn't as Here doesn't know many more industrial areas (see my other posts).
At home, somewhat further, 300 meters, the street bends. Both TomTom and Here always take the correct route but Here showing the curve as a complte "Y", both ends leading to the the next street, only there is no "Y", just a slight bend.
And so on.
That is interesting indeed. Maybe I have been too harsh on TomTom, after that "traumatic" experience. TomTom was my favorite for along time.
You know I am going to give it another chance and try the newer version. And I let you know.
Je weet wat ze zeggen: één vogel maakt de lente niet
I do understand your experience. In my answer, I only gave 2 examples, i can give many more examples that TomTom clearly wins, Yet I must admit that TomTom isn't perfect. And flaws happen. I have seen some map faults in TomTom, faults that weren't present in a previous or next edition. How come? I don't know. I also did experience they incorporate (bigger) road works, so maybe that is what you experienced? Consider that road works end or are postponed, but the map can be made, ....
What I do know about Here is (so far) that the map maker is very consistent, the same errors live on during years and years. Don't they check error reports ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Why?, who knows?.
Read the comments for bigger countries, where users say that in this part one map is better, in that part the other, or inside the city use this map, outside that map.
I like here maps more current
Yeah, current.
But, are they better then Israel GM maps?
NZ TT maps are more detailed than HERE maps. Used to be an adamant HERE user - tried TT, allegiance changed.
