    Default TomTom for sale?

Not sure if this is the place to post this, "GPS news" or GPS free talk" are possibly better places. Or not, as the most important word in this post is "rumor", not "news".

That said, rumors are very strong that TomTom is trying to sell the company.
Decreasing sales of gps devices could be the reason for this, decreasing profits year after year are facts.

Asian market seems to be most interested in TomTom as they are lacking mapmakers. On the other hand, TomTom map division could be very important for the self-driving-car developers and therefor very much worth the money (1.7 billion Euro). AFAIK, this is not a Asian thing, so European or American buyers might be interested as well.

And the latter may be supported by politics as some countries (esp. USA) are strongly opposed to selling to e.g. Chinese firms as with the TT map division, national security could be vulnerable when "enemy states" get hold on it.

    To be continued.

In a reaction to the above news/rumor (published on several news sites), on THursday TomTom denied hiring a consultant to look for possible buyers.
In that same reaction, TomTom did not deny that it looks at the strategic options, whatever that means.
Rumor is they are looking for (at?) an Asian shareholder to take over all or part of the company.

As expected, TomTom has in the first 3 months of this year had a sales drop, 10% over all, about 25% weakening sales from its consumer products only.
On the positive side, services provided to the auto industry are clearly expanding.
    No news about the future.

Perhaps people are just keeping what they already have. They have just stopped supporting many devices that were bought on the assumption that they had FREE Maps for Life. Now seems that it's what they think the LIFE of their Sat Nav is. Leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths so when they decide to change they go elsewhere. I have just been playing with their Android Software and it's not very good. You pay for something ( or not ) and find out that it's got a few elementary features missing like NO SPEEDCAMERA's bit like our New Toyota. Yes its got speed camera database but 3 of our local ones are not even on it. Try adding your own POI's to TomTom Android.. What a joke .. Thats if you know where to find the App in the first place.
