Now, megabaud is sometimes considered synonymous with megabit per second because the first can refer to either 1,000,000 tones or pulses per second and the latter to 1,000,000 bits per second. The baud rate was generally the bit rate in some modems, but that's just not always the case with other more-advanced modems and advanced methods of data transmission. However, seeing you were around to witness [and still remember] Yuri's triumph let's just concede that one and give you the benefit of the doubt.
But, and it's a BIG but, the abbreviation for megabaud is MBd, not Mbd, even though 'baud' is written without a capital B if spelled out in full either singularly or with a prefix, e.g. baud, kilobaud, megabaud etc so a bit of a trap there too.
