Default Purchased a car, it come with aftermarket head unit incl. GPS Navigation System

    Hi All,

I just purchased a car second hand and the previous owner installed a Blaupunkt Head Unit, I believe the model is called 'New York 800'.

I have read through the instruction manual to try to find a little more about it, and how to upgrade maps etc, it has referred me to
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
which I just installed the small desktop application in an attempt to update my map (it is > 3 years old). Unfortunately they are asking $120US for an update to the 2015 map. Unfortunately this is a ridiculous price, as I always purchase map updates for my stand alone TomTom system for about $50 per year.

Can anyone tell me what kind of map files I would need to search the web for in order to update my GPS 'on the cheap'?

Any tips appreciated, I keep searching for New York 800 and I believe that is the head unit brand, and not the mapping brand etc.

    Cheers

You could easily find maps here that work with iGo/Primo (assuming the naviextras.com indicated)at a very reasonable cost. Like $0.00.
However, you would probably have to 'switch' to a fixed version of the navigation software as these maps probably would not work with a standard retail version.
In order to do this, much more would need to be known about the hardware and software you currently have, and when the software version is determined, you should look and post in the appropriate iGo section.

Thanks Mike, I will move to the iGo/Primo section and ask my question there.

So because it is suggesting the website naviextras.com you know it is definitely an iGo/Primo map system?

Im just trying to learn the basics as i go (excuse the pun!!)

    Thanks for that.

Thanks for posting this as I'm a newbie to GPS too and recently got my first aftermarket unit with a GPS programme..

I'm having all kinds of fun trying to find any available updates but seeing as you've mentioned naviextras here, and i have the igo/primo logo i'll pop over to that section too..
