One problem is I can hardly tell which map I'm looking at, 2015 or 2016. Can't think of any new roads or exits that were built lately. But my GPS does say 2016 now so that must be what it is.

Here's something for you, Foo. You know anything about baseball? No, you wouldn't. But Ring Lardner wrote this one hundred years ago. Feller I know read it, and he read it great. Funny. I'm the judge of what's funny and what ain't funny - and what most of the dumbed down fattened up morons laugh at ain't funny, but this is cunningly wrought and funny so that's that, and me m8 here - who also went to the same high school I did - did an awesome reading job and that's that. Title: *You Know Me Al*. There's stuff about it on Wikipedia. You can download the zip file here. I download these and put them on a tablet and listen to them whilst driving, but right now I'm re-listening to the Jack Benny shows, Jack Benny shows from 75 years ago, and I relate to them 1000X more than I do to anything on contemporary media. Of course I relate to the Pleistocene ice age much more yet, but that's because that's when I grew up.

I think Foo is saying that I can get the new maps onto Basecamp, which I have on my computer but never use. I've only used MapSource. But right now I am using my giant brain to try to see if I can import the new 2016 map from my 276 to Basecamp, so far with the usual success rate of zero.
BaseCamp hadn't even been thought of when your 276c hit the shelves Melv. Even tho' it's really old, if you hook it up to the PC then start BC you should get access to the gmapsupp.img on it's datacard to play with in BC.

As for Maggie the hobbit helping me, so far he hasn't talked to me. I don't think he speaks English. In fact the only person here who has talked to me is you.
Because i feel a bit sorry for you. Maggie's a bit frightened by your mental state as is everybody else. Maybe it's really that i've recognised a kindred troubled soul .....

Perhaps if I bathed more frequently more people would talk to me.
Unlikely. Poor personal hygiene is probably the least of your problems unfortunately.

Thanks for Ring's letters from Jack to Al. I'll get around to them [really, i will. I mean that seriously]. I'd reckon i know far more about baseball than you do about cricket however. I played both as a kid, had Canadian neighbours and their kids wanted my brother and me to play baseball with them. I could pitch better than them which pissed them off bigtime [truth is, it's not much different to softball or rounders which are girl's and sissy's games respectively over here]. Maybe we Aussies also know more about Gridiron than you parochial NA types do about AFL or either of the Rugby codes. Jarrod Hayne seems to be showing how easy Gridiron is comparatively, seemed to switch pretty smoothly from playing Rugby League to an instant running back with the '49ers. Later Melv.

Now Neil why would I need to show Kilroy how to use basecamp and load maps when all I have is a Garmin Legacy unit which has no maps and has always told me where I am, I don't get lost and don't need to update maps at all M8.

---Queen! Queen! Look what he said - again! See, that's what happens when you procrastinate chopping peoples' head off that have it coming to them! No, offense, Foo. You are my hero, but still I need to do my civic duty as a loyal subject of the queen.

--- They play American-style softball over there? If u think softball is a sissy's game u should see the pros at it, including the girls. They throw that pitch underhand at 150 miles per hour! I was watching the nationwide girls softball championships in Huntington Beach CA a couple of years ago. Those girls were really into it, and they weren't playing no sissy game. They were in if for blood.

---What I really got into way back when was a game that most Americans don't even know about now, including New Yorkers, and it was a New York game. It was played with what we called a Spaldeen, and then you needed a stick for the bat, which was generally someones' broom we found lying around and liberated and and sawed off the handle, tho in later years we bought a ready made bat for 50 cents at Dave's candy store, along with the Spaldeen for a quarter. Dave dipped the Spaldeen in water so it didn't split so easily. Then all you needed was a piece of chalk to draw the batters box on the schoolyard wall, and a usable schoolyard too of course. There were different variations of the game but we played fast pitch stickball. When I was an older teenager I became too strong for the game really and I was the only guy ever to hit four home runs on to the tenement roof across the street. I was awfully impressed with myself but me m8's were pissed off that I kept losing Spaldeens on the roof. Such is the fickle fortunes of fame.

--- I think some Irishmen used to play rugby up in Gaelic Park in the Bronx, but I don't know nuthin about that game. Gaelic Park was an anachronistic place, an old fashioned wooden stadium of the sort they had back in the 19th and earlier centuries. I think it might even still be there. Maybe they played some variation of the game, Irish football or whatever. Soccer, what you blokes call football, was totally unknown when I was a kid. Once we went up to Van Cortland Park in the Bronx and there were some Puerto Ricans or something playing soccer. We watched the ball sail through the air, and then instead of trying to catch it, the jerk let if just bounce off his head. We were laughing about that for months.

---So then, can I save my new map to Basecamp? And now after all that trouble I think 2016.1 is already almost obsolete with 2016.2 coming out! Such is the fickle fortunes of .bat files.

You talking about your crumby yellow eTrex Maggy? I'm sure you don't have a CN on it, but it's got a basemap and maybe a 30 yr old topo even. All you use that for is wondering around outback WA looking fretfully for gold without falling into other hobbit's holes. I reckon you still use a UBD to find your way around town, although i had heard your missus has made you upgrade to Voice Command: 'Hey mate! How do i find X's place?' ....... 'So, that's hang a left at the next Servo, watch for the dead cow in the ditch after bout a klick, take next left then look for a wallaby carcass on the double lines and take the right fork cos if i take the left one i'll end up back here, drive a few hundred metres or so and his shanty is the one with 3 koala skins and a wombat pelt drying on the front barbed wire fence yeah? ... Cheers mate'. Sigh! Ain't technology wonderful ......

Translations for tourists: Servo = service station [garage/filling station/gas station - although in civilised countries we call it 'petrol']. Klick or simply k = kilometre [no, it's not kilometer. Metre is a froggy word, they made it up so they know how to spell it].

Maggy, fercrissake tell him how to install a gmap folder into his PC, THAT'S what i wanted him to do in the first place so he could send a shortcut map to his 276C using MapInstall ..... mumble, rhubarb, mutter. FLlCKIN' YANKS musta won WW2 by sheer force of numbers not brain-power.

If you were looking at the 2016 map it was the img file on the datacard while the 276C was connected to your PC. Maybe you have a gmap [PC installed] version of 2015.10 which will also show in BC without your unit hooked up.

GFC is that thing you lot caused and nearly sent the rest of us broke. Then, Bart Simpson-like, your Gentle Ben said 'I didn't do it'. Unlike in the Simpsons episode #93, it stopped being funny pretty quick. Never was funny actually. Shame you've got a central bank that panders to Wall Street and keeps its number one policy as 'Beggar thy neighbour'. No 2 is 'I'm alright Jack'. Unlike your Fed, our RBA is actually kinda independent and tries to do what's best for the entire country without shafting the rest of the world [or at least pretends too].

Gaelic Park looks like a bit of a 'fixerupper'. The Paddys were maybe playing gaelic football, the ancestor of 'handballs' like AFL and gridiron. Actually, we blokes call soccer .. [ta da!] soccer in fact. You clearly copied us because i played it when i was a kid, it was a more popular inter-school game [in primary school] here than 'handball-type football' codes in those days which is what we call football, or 'footy'.

NO....YOU....CAN'T....SAVE...THAT...FLlCKING...IMG...FILE..TO..BC. You can only access it with BC when you connect your unit to the PC. If you want to do more, instal a gmap folder. Ask Maggy. I'm getting palpitations again.

Remember the exposure Moxie softdrink got from MAD? I wonder did they get paid for that or was it just another of their running gags that took off under it's own steam .... a bit like this thread lately really.

Moxie [the GF] got mothballed in 1959, this was her 2nd last appearance

She then got dusted off in 2004 for a somewhat erotic return, looking much more of a slurry than before: MAD+Moxie+%2526+Alfred002

Hello, Foo, how do you do?

OK, before you go crazy with the Mad thing I gotta remind u that the only Mads that interest me were those made during the Harvey Kurtzman years, 1952 - 1956.

Your Maggie Melvin schtick with the missing comma reminds me of the Darnold Duck comic gag in Mad.

I'm typing this upon my new tablet upon which it is very difficult to type, so I shall systematically address and refute your scurilous message tomorrow if not sooner or later after consulting with my attorneys.
Now that I've got my 2016.1 safely ensconced in my valuable antique GPS there is no further reason to be obsequious and/or nice to you so I can revert to my normal obnoxious self. My 2016, I might add, that appears to be identical to my 2015. And then this question asriseth: The sons of bitches at Garmin told me that they can no longer update my maps, notwithstanding the salient fact that I purchased a lifetime - I said lifetime! - map update contract from aforesaid sons of bitches, supposedly because the new maps were no longer compatible with my GPS. So then, gentlemen of the jury, I put it to you, why then is my new 2016 map perfectly, I say perfectly, compatible!? Your honour I rest my case.

His Honour thinks your case sucks. So sue me ya bum. Your attorneys are probably pansies too. Q: How do you get a lawyer out of a tree? A: Cut the rope. Tell 'em that one, you'll be representing yourself real quick.

Please stop calling me Foo. I'm not calling you Kiltdead anymore am i? [probably not any less either]. You may call me Mr Martin or Sir [don't spell it cur like the cops around here].

As for those sons o' Bitches [that's their Mother, always use a capitol 'B' out of respect] at garmin ['g' is intentional], they probably only said that to you because with mule-like stubbornness you refused to load the 2016.10 gmap folder to your PC and their 'taylored/pre-assembled' smaller versions of US were all still too big to fit on your 276c [same as used by Chris C in 1492]. Why don't you hook up that thang 'n' see what [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] offers you pardner?

This is a nuvi with LM for US & CA, as you can see instead of the entire US/CA area I can choose to load several 'taylored' US [lower 48] images to it [all of which will be too big for your datacard], OR, importantly, load the data to my Win 8.1 PC which will place a gmap folder in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps [same path is used for your Win 7 jobbie]. From there, i can use MapInstall to load only a tiny bit of map data ranging from a single tile upwards and so can you i reckon if you'd only take your stubborn yankee head outta ya ass [god that must be painful!]. Observe:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Aw crap! They won't fit. Let's go to plan B and load a PC install version [gmap folder]:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Yup. Load 'er up parnder! This is what you'll have:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Oh look, the entire gmap folder is installed in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps! [That's kinda magic that is ...]

So then we [i mean you] can use [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [don't confuse that with MapUpdater which we just used] to load some bits just like i did to make your img file about 10 years ago for your area. Remember [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]?:

    MI AZ surrounds

So it's worth a try, see if MapUpdater will still offer you the legit update for 2016.10. Maybe some poor terminally frustrated support droid blew a circuit before he could strip your 276c of it's LM rights ... you'll never know unless you try .....
