A dedicated car GPS RNS in VW.
However, as I refuse to pay the crazy GPS rental fees abroad, I use a TomTom XXL sat nav.
I am looking to use an android tablet but my confidence isn't high on that after trying to figure out which is the most stable and comprehensive android Sat Nav app out there from the forums here (complicated by maybe wanting to try my TomTom XXL gps and something else like iGo on the tablet together fill in any gaps in both).

Hi!
I think using smartphone for short trips and TomTom for the long ones is the most practical way.

Using only android phone loaded with several navigation app.
7Ways is my favourite one as this is offline navigation app. Google Map and Waze used for traffic monitoring.
The reason is that I have several vehicles. So, no need to buy several devices for all vehicles.

I use a smartphones because I think that are more versatile, and in any place and situation you have and you can use.
