Thanking you all for the great info in this forum...I just got a GPSMAP 62 ST (I wanted to buy a 62 STC but apparently Garmin are incredibly behind, at least in Europe as these new models are impossible to find).
Anyway, from another thread I downloaded and installed TrekMap Italy on a SD card with no problems whatsoever - just copied the GPMAPSUPP file in the Garmin folder and that was it!
Then I downloaded the city navigator for Italy and since that file also came with the same GPSMAPSUPP name I renamed it into GPSMAPSUP2, then just copied in the same folder of the same SD card, and it works fine with the device! So now I have both maps on the same SD card and it seems to be working fine.
I am in the process of downloading other maps and will try to name them GPSMAPSUP3 etc. to see whether they work too.
The only issue is that BASECAMP does not see the second map I just added, whereas it sees the first one with no issues - later.
in 62 , create a folder in sd named "Garmin" and copy maps as anymame.img (no gmapsup.img)
to see all the map in Basecamp read :

Thanks for the fast reply.
In the meantime, I added GMAPSUP3 to the SD card and that too worked perfectly! It appears I can add as many maps I like as long as I have space.
I also tried to add one of those maps to the internal memory, called it GMAPSUPP and that too works fine.
So in summary it looks like all the issues I read about names and formats do not apply to this model as (like you say) just adding .img files either on the internal memory or SD card is all you need to do.
I had seen that post and the GMAPTOOL - looked a bit complicated though I had a quick go at downloading it yesterday and didn't work - will try again now.
DO you have a link for downloading GMAPTOOL?
Also, in that post you refer to patching BASECAMP - is that required too? Thanks again...
Not complicated at all, just one click!
Gmaptool link is in Gmaptool sticky thread ;)

Basecamp shows also locked maps, no need to patch it for that, you can find all the explainings and helps here

:every section has its INDEXES
All done thanks!!!
The screen looked different but I just went to the options tab to enable the 'advanced options', then I could see the set header fields in the write tab.
DO you also know whether I can see all these maps in BASECAMP directly from my hard drive - i.e. without having to connect my GPS?
@catymag I diden't try your method because I always use MapSource program to generate a custom maps. All people don't need the whole maps in garmin devices. I't slows down a processing of device and maps sometimes interfere with each other. I think it's better to create your own custom map with MapSource an then transfer it as on .img file alwready unlocked in MapSource with JetMous generator. This generator still works even for the new maps like City Navigator Europe 2011.20. I haw totorial how it's done with MapSource. Try to look for my web page.
hi at all, a friend of mine has garmin 620 with the bluechart g2 (for boat navigation) on sd card. With mapsource he selected Italy from City navigator 2012 (car navigation) and loaded it in internal memory in the folder garmin with the file name gmapsupp.img. Now he can switch from boat navigation and car navigation at the same time.
Thanks a ton Catymag!
Got all the required maps into the Map folder on my Nuvi 1410. Simple!
It depends on with which device you want to use it, in symbian phones 2 gbQuote:
