    Default BlueCharts mapping symbols meaning

    BlueChart's mapping symbols meaning

Garmin uses NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) charts to create the Bluechart mapping used in our devices. Garmin bases digital mapping from the paper charts made by NOAA.

The best place to find information about the symbols used for the BlueChart mapping is NOAA Chart No. 1 webpage.

This page offers different chapters of information. For instance, if information about the symbols used for bouys is desired, the Aids and Services chapter can be downloaded, or just the section from that chapter called Bouys and Beacons can be downloaded alone.

And for some of us that do not live where NOAA rules we can change the symbol set to suit.
On my Dakota 20 GPS there is the option:
Setup > Marine > Appearance Navaids > Symbol Set > NOAA or International.
Giomen you have more even more symbols to learn.
