    Problem : update maps on Garmin C320 which had locked maps of year 2005. (I lost all the information about those maps and if SD card would be damaged i won't be able to use GPS anymore)
    Found inspiring video on YouTube but it didn't help much but gave me hope that maps update is doable. (search "How to update a 15 Year old Garmin StreetPilot C320 " on YouTube).
    The video on YouTube is good to watch as it explains the existing problem with c320 in details.
    Anyway here is my steps:

    1) installed the latest MapsSurce from Gamin website (version 6.16.3) .
    2) Downloaded gimgunlock-0.04.rar from here : [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (Linux version i could compile myself using open sources codes form github: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Mac OSX i couldn't compile because the latest MAC OSX supports only 64bit software and this one is 32-bit.
    3) unzipped (unrared) gimgunlock-0.04.rar to the same directory where i put gmapsupp.img from the SD card.
    4) used gimgunlock-0.04.exe ato unlocked gmapsupp.img

    Built a new PC recently and I'm having problems re-installing my Bluechart 8.5. Can't find my CD from years ago but have a copy of the unlocked folder of all the .img files plus others. I ran GMapTool by adding all the .img files then using the split function to create a new folder to install into mapsource. I ran the install.bat then ran mapsource and it said the files were locked. I ran GarminUnlocker.exe on the .tdb file, then ran mapsource again and I got no notice of locked files but I can't see anything on the map, nothing shows and there is no listing on the left side panel.

    I don't know if this is the correct method to re-install without a CD. Theoretically if my original folder is all unlocked I should just be able to add the required registry entries and it should work but I can't find a tool to do that.

    Any tips come to mind?

    If you have the zoom control available then zoom in to see detail.

    Yes, I tried that. From min to max zoom I can't see anything. Did I use the correct method?

    Maybe I didn't add all the .img files? These 2 were not part of the mapset I copied into GMapTool -

    BCAMRTIDES85_MDR.img

    BCAMR85.img

    Should I have included them?

    Just found something, the only thing I see on the map -

    I haven't used MapSource for ages but i seem to recall it doesn't play well with Marine Charts. Try installing HomePort instead. Both MS & HP are depreciated/unsupported by Garmin now and they've removed visible download links from their servers. This is the only one i've found for HP, it's version 2.25 but after install it'll offer to upgrade to latest V2.32:

    After you copy and paste that link into a browser it might take a little time to offer the download window. Press the 'Go' button to the right of the EXE description if it doesn't start automatically.

    @Butters

    Is there a current app that works with old and new maps?

    Well that depends what you want to do. ActiveCaptain (for marine charts), BaseCamp and MapInstall (for land maps) are the current programs Garmin promotes for working with their map products. Note that they don't supply marine charts in an installable form like they do maps for automotive use (such as .GMAP folders) and i think you realize that modern BCs are only supplied in *.img files, that leaves you having to reverse-engineer them to work with them in HomePort (or a very old version of MapSource). ActiveCaptain is an andoid & apple app. To use it on PC you'll need an emulator, like BlueStacks for Android. But never having used ActiveCaptain i really don't know its full capabilities.

    @Butters

    Yeah, been reading all about this on thehulltruth.com forum. Everyone frustrated Homeport died. My mapsource did work fine until now. I guess I may have to find my old CD and re-install properly. Thanks for that HP link. I got it.

    BTW, is Navionics talked about on this site?

    You do know they recently raised the price to $50US! In the past after your 1 year subscription expires you could keep using the downloaded maps, but I read they may take that away!!
