Default Multiple Maps on NUVI 200w/Nuvi 255W sd

I am attempting to put multiple maps on NUVI 200w. This is what I have done

    1. install a 4gb sd card and using Mapsource wrote North America 2012
    2. when I went to enable map it had both 2008 and 2012 on it
    3. cut/patse 2008 from internal memory to desktop
    4. 2012 works form sd card and I cannot put it in internal memory as there is not enough memory.

Here is where I cannot get second map to work. I want to add a landownership map also

    1. Using copy/paste I put on the sd card the landownershil mapset and named it "gmapsup2"
    2. the 2012 is named "gmapsupp"
    3. The 2012 works but the land ownership map does not show up.
    4. I wrote a smaller mapset of the landownership set to the internal memory and it works, the problem is the entire mapset wont fit on th einternal memory

Is there an issue with my names?

    Thanks

If you want to amuse yourself, read it all. The SD map naming [gmapsupp.img, gmapsup1.img] is also applicable to 465T, all 2xx/W & 7xx series but with recent US/EU fw only, Asian units fw does not allow for second map gmapsup1.img in SD Garmin folder.

i think it will only read two maps and they should be called:

    gmapprom.img (main map)
    gmapsupp.img(supplementary map)

please let us know if this works for you.

I was out yesterday so will try that asap. Can I have BOTH maps on the sd card? Only because there is not enough room on internal memory for either one.

There's apparently a bit of confusion on maling's part. Confusion that may steer you wrong. I have a 200W, so please listen.

The internal memory of a 200W can have at least three maps: gmapbmap.img, gmapprom.img, gmapsupp.img. Gmapbmap.img is the base map. Gmapprom.img is the preinstalled maps on a 200W, and gmapsupp.img is the name of the maps created by an upgrade. Based upon your post, you have a 1GB unit, which means you have approximately 950MB free space, since you pulled the original map from internal memory.

The SD card, regardless of size, has only ONE map that the 200W can recognize: gmapsupp.img. You can put multiple maps on the SD card, but the only one the 200W will see is gmapsupp.img.

So, based upon what you are trying to do, CNNANT 2012.20 will be on the SD card and your landowner map on the internal memory, assuming the landowner map is less than the total amount of free space on the 200W. The landowner map will be named either gmapprom.img or gmapsupp.img (your choice). Otherwise, you will have to try and combine the CNNANT 2012.20 maps with the landowner map into one gmapsupp.img to fit on the SD card.

I did say "at least three", but I wasn't about to fire up my 200W just to check that out.

As Strephon Alkhalikoi said above you can combine several maps in one gmapsupp.img file in your sd-card. This can be made with i.e. gmaptool or when transferring the maps to gps from Mapsource. A new gmapsupp.img is generated each time from Mapsource then.

I think that the nuvi200 have a limitation on how large a map file can be that is 2 GB. One workaround then is to generate the first gmapsupp.img and the rename it to something like gmapsupp.img.CNEU and then generate another gmapsupp.img file. You can then rename the wanted file to gmapsupp.img and the other file to something else when hooked to the PC and make a relatively quick switch between maps (provided that you have access to a computer or a smartphone capable to reading and renaming files in the sd-card) In this way you can get some use of your 4 GB card

I confirm on nuvi 200 - CNE 2012.20 + DR 5.24, total file received about 3,5 GB, copied to memory card 4 GB - and it works perfectly.

Good news! I have a nuvi200 and always thought that the 2GB limit was there for it but now I stand corrected...
Maybe a firmware update could be good for me also.

Recently updated the firmware on my Son's 200 and the SD image size 2GB limit is gone, gone, gone!
