Use rgn_tool to extract boot.bin from your original firmware (gupdate.gcd).

So this one i flashed while modding the 3790 i have to use:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Open that rgn with rgn_tool -> save the logo.bin -> open the logo.bin with gir_editor -> replace 800x480px with a custom one -> save logo.bin -> load the logo.bin back in rgn_tool -> save the rgn file -> flash in preboot.

Is that the right method? I dont have to make a 1024px custom image, just replace the 800px?

    I'm stuck in Step 2 - point 3.

right where it says : 3- Click the Load button in that region on the right. Select the boot.bin file that correspond to your GPS.
It is important that the HWID of your boot.bin matches the one on your GPS. Click Open.

Where can I find the boot. bin file that corresponds to my GPS (Nuvi 3790)

And looking ahead : Which will be the matching HWID in my case ?

    Of course : Thanks a lot !

    Read with care :
Step 2: Create the .RGN file to update the GPS
Download rgn tool by turboccc, load your device firmware ,it will show your HWID and you'll be able to save the boot.bin-
Dont do anything till you dont understand clearly what are you doing or you can brick your device.

    example

    7QQkJ
    l9ebnsm
