GarminDevice.xml is recreated each time the device starts. The firmware never reads from it but only writes to it.

Don't confuse people, RAM doesn't store data permanently. It is non-volatile memory which store data permanently, also there are a few more flash regions that can do it.
Why are you so sure that phone book, etc. isn't stored in the filesystem? Did you check all the .db files which are just SQLite databases? Security is a bad argument, as firmware can encrypt any data on the filesystem. non-volatile memory isn't secure also, as we can easily read it, write it and decrypt it.

kunix don't confuse me! Special for you I replace ROM to non-volatile memory! Nice to meet a worthy companion on amateur forum

No phone book and other personal data stored in file system that open for usual user! If you find anything trace of it in files you must urgently send a message to Garmin. It is the serious vulnerability!!!

But I agree that non-volatile memory isn't secure also. But it is more secure than usual file system. I hope you know what deleting of file it does not mean the physical removal of info from media.

    P. S. You is very young but I am remember a great collision with the one of version software of Nuvi 660 when any can read another's phone data after pairing with other phone!
Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?

Your 3760 doesn't use SID files.

For what files you can put in microSD read [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. When using MapUpdater, wait until prompted before inserting the card.

Thanks Neil for the information about sid files
I read the thread MapUpdate uses SD card for essential files and according to catymag post there (Everything is in internal mem. in .System should work in sd in Garmin folder)
which means I can put the G2S and DB files in sd card too under SD:\Garmin\G2S and SD:\Garmin\SQLite correct me if I am wrong and Thanks again

Sorry....but have you considered to just put the map in SD and leave all the files on the nav accessories?
It would be easier? The same execution speed....

I think that any ancillary folders and their files which will work in the units .system folder will also work in a Garmin folder in microSD. Catymag thinks so too, see Post #3 here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. How about as roger1109 suggested, you test .G2S & .db files in there? Then you can report back the results. Of course with the detail maps on the card, you'll have plenty of room on the unit memory anyway .
