Attach nuvi usb, modify the sw version in garmindevice.xml to a previous version, in your case, for example 7.30 if you want to flash 7.50, don't remove nuvi from USB, put the *.gcd you want to flash on desktop along the Webupdater icon shortcut (they must be both on desktop), drag&drop the *.gcd in Webupdater and flash

    Thanks for your reply.

It seems having both the firmware file and the Garmin Express Updater on desktop is essencial, I hadn't understood that from the instructions.

I edited the .xml file to 3.70, to update to 4.00. I had to turn off the internet so in Tools (in Garmin Express) finally the version appeared 3.70.

But, there were no different options, like "additional info". Nevertheles, I followed the instructions, ejected the nuvi, turned it on, but the version is still 7.60.

I tried with three different files from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] 2.70 (nuvi2xx7_GCDFile__270.gcd), 4.00 (nuvi2xx7and2xx8_GCDFile__400.gcd) and 4.60 (nuvi2xx7and2xx8_GCDFile__460.gcd), no good luck with either of them.

    Any suggestions?

Thank you very much for your patience, #catymag, with webupdater it worked out easily, but...

Only with the file you sent me in that link (nuvi2xx7and2xx8_530.gcd - HWID 2077).

All the other files from Perry, from 4.70 and 4.60 back to nuvi2xx7_GCDFile__270.gcd, did not work... And the version 5.30 still does not allow for the installation of other maps in my nüvi 2597. From my investigation, I really need minimum version 4.60, but the one I got from Perry does not work.

So, could you check if there's, perhaps in the archives, other option for version 4.60 HWID 2077?

Thanks to #Giomen in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ],

and to his file for HWID 2077, version 4.60

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I have finally managed to roll back the firmware of my nuvi 2597 to 4.60.

But... Unfortunately my device (Nuvi 2597) really does not allow for other maps than the one from Lifetime update, through Garmin Express...

    I've fished out more info:

    from #catymag' post, on 9th February 2015, 02:02 PM:

Unfortunately as stated in OP quote

    New gimgunlock-0.03+MapSigPatch
unlocks NT (not NTU) IMGs in newer devices, but not working with all new devices 2xx9
    If you have 2xx7 (8) (PartNumber> 006-B1582-00), works

    If you have 2xx7 (8) (PartNumber> 006-B2077-00), doesn't work. [THAT'S MY CASE]

Your device have a new protection in firmware.

    And also from #Cents:

I am a new member and a complete Newb at updating maps in a GPS. I just bought a Garmin Nuvi 2597 from Costco Canada a week and 1/2 ago. Right after I got it I used Garmin Express to updated the maps and a software update (I think a firmware update but not completely sure). I have read a large part of this thread and others and have checked the Garmin XML file and it has the dreaded "PartNumber> 006-B2077-00" near the beginning of the file. Is the part number tied to the physical device and so is unchangeable and I am simply done until someone finds another way around this with a new gimgunlock or similar, or is the part number tied to a firmware update that I might have done, and if I roll back the firmware based on info in this forum and use the latest gimgunlock I could then install a Garmin European NT map?

    Answer by #catymag: @Cents.
Sorry actually you cannot unlock maps with unlockers in your device.

So, I thank a lot for the help - it's a great forum - and I'll be waiting till some genius can figure out a way to remove this protection from Nuvis 2597 (and the others) with part-number "HWID 2077"

    Cheers!

That's a bit light on info Mate, 'didn't work' is a tad genetic. However, a common problem is that an attempt to go directly back to the desired lower version fails with some units, Astro 320 is one such unit. When a progressive step-by-step to the next lowest is tried it will work. i.e. one at a time: 4.40>4.20>4.00>3.90>3.80>3.70>3.60>3.40. Read fully and then post again back in the following thread if you need more help: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. The problem was first noted going back from V3.70 to 3.40 as per [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] there.

    @hcch
You won't achieve anything at all by downgrading the firmware. All versions from 2.80 to current 5.30 have strong MSV protection so you must patch the firmware, use the latest V5.30 for that. As there is also GVS protection, the patched firmware must be loaded as an RGN file in pre-boot mode using Updater.exe but only for initial patching. Subsequent patched versions can be done by a GCD file ongoing. Read this thread: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. I also gave you that thread's link several days ago over here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. There is (currently at least) no other way to use unlocked maps on your DriveLuxe. Post in the Patcher thread if you need more help, but read the first several posts at least before posting there. Pay particular attention to Note 3 in Post No. 2 should RGN_Tool fail to flash the RGN file.
