    Dear Midnight Blues,

Thank you for your valuable help, a couple of questions on the following

What is the purpose behind the first step here? Am I pulling the maps that are built into my device using MapSource? Why do I rename then copy again to the device?

From the second step, am I understanding correctly that I should only add gmapsupp.img files to a map folder? Where do I create this map folder exactly? In the hidden System folder or Device root or a Garmin folder? Will the device recognize additional gmapsup2.img maps if I put them along in the map folder?

One last question on the JCV and 3D files, within the hidden System folder, I can a see gmap3d.img file and a JCV folder that has a D2339010A.JCV file in it, now that I have new JCV and gmap3d.img files for the 2011 Europe map, should I be putting the Europe JCV file in the same JCV folder along with the North America JCV file? Or do I need to create a new JCV folder in the map folder where the gmapsupp.img is going to be? Same question for the gmap3d.img, does it go in the System folder or the new map folder?

Sorry for taking so much of your time, I really appreciate your help.

My post is not "how to", there are no steps, only answers on your questions.

Here again - answers on your questions:
You asked about MapSource versions and that was answer - some MapSource versions posted on forum are made this way - converting IMG files to MapSource version.

Yes, just copy gmapsupp.img to map folder, this folder should already exist on your device (this one is not hidden as system folder)
It should be in root of device, or root of SD card, if it's not there crate it, yes device will recognize gmapsup2.img.

No new JCV folder needed, just put new *.JCV file in same folder (no renaming needed as they already have different names).
New (second) gmap3d.img rename to gmap3d1.img and put in same folder where firs one is (maximum 2 files) - as explained by tom1807 in post #2 of this thread.

SUM Files are Checksum files. When you open the developer menu and start a test of the files, the SUM files are generated complete new. You'll see this in the "More Info" page".
Leaving this page and stop the test, you have a possibility to delete the Checksum files and your Nuvi works as before.
    No harm is done.
Moreover, there were reports (but not confirmed) when having old SUM files of a previous map and update this map, the device would become more slowly when navigating. But as written above, its not confirmed

Default Any use for the GMAP3D and JCV files when using MapSource?

I sometimes see the inclusion of the 3D and JCV files included in with the MapSource version downloads and have always wondered what they have to do with MapSource, if anything. The only use I have seen for them is to be placed in the \garmin and \garmin\jcv sub-dirs either in the unit itself (765T and 885T for me) or on the SD/microSD card dirs (same dir structure). Can someone clear that up for me, please? TIA.

GMAP3D.img and JCV files are only for compatible Garmin GPS units and can't be used in MapSource. They appear together with MapSource files in the complete (eg. download for device & computer) RMU download package for those units when downloading Garmin map updates.

I am using the Kenwood DNX 9960 which has the Garmin GPS system (the webupdater says AVN 4.1/5 model). I buy the TSM 10.1 (licensed) but it doesn't come with the JCV in the SD card. I downloaded the NO_Pain TH JCV and try to figure out how to enable it. Should I put it in the SD card \garmin\JCV or put in the unit \garmin\JCV? By the way, the only way that the firmware can recognize the Thai_vpm is to rename as the American Engish_vpm and replace the American English_vpm (real American voice.) What should I do with the JCV?

Hello everyone, just bought nuvi 765T with CN Europe 2011.10 preloaded; I would like to update maps to version 2011.30, but downloading files from thread, I can't find any of them among the ones I currently have on device internal memory: the file I download is called gmapsupp.img, instead the files I'm searching for are called gmapbmap.img, gmapprom.img, gmaptz.img, gmap3d.img. I know that there are different mapsets available; but how can I definitely update my preloaded map 2011.10 to the last version? Is there anyone can help me??? Thanx a lot for your cooperation
