Good morning,
one question: does each navigator have its own ldr.bin file? If so, how can I retrieve the file from the navigator?
I noticed that RGN doesn’t mention ldr.bin. I would like to extract region 16 and region 41.
Thanks
Any garmin devices which use proprietary OS like your Drive 61 use RGN/GCD firmware files and they have a boot.bin component contained in the fw file. "Ldr.bin" is just the "boot.bin" renamed and despite the default naming of boot.bin, it's the ramloader. You can extract it from any RGN or GCD file with RGN_Tool.exe, here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...], or use [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]. There is no reliable way to extract the boot.bin data from a device's onboard region 12 (0x0C) which is a virtual region.
Is it possible that there’s no one who can help me? I know for sure it’s doable!!!
By "doable", you mean to correct the model ID after conversion as discussed in posts from #5, then i agree that quite likely, if it's fw based, it can be done but i don't know how. You clearly have the motivation, so if you also have some coding experience and lots of time to investigate and the key is contained solely in the device firmware, then it is doable. However, because it's reputed to be a 'closed shop', Garmin's proprietary operating system is not known to be modifiable like Linux-type systems on which it's distantly based. So, if rather than fw the key to changing the model ID is buried in the actual OS it's a probably a waste of time to try.
You say "I know for sure it's doable". How do you know that?
Good morning,
I’m sure of it because I’ve seen many modified devices.
A user on another forum, Americovil, even inserted his own name.
I’m trying to figure out where the model resides, but I still haven’t understood it.
I don’t think it’s in the software, but in some region of the firmware.
If I get any results, I’ll let you know.

Neil,
if it weren’t for you, no one would reply in this forum!!! It’s very sad!!!
Interesting that he's been able to do that. You'd have surely tried asking him about it on the other forum so i suppose he doesn't want to part with his secret. Unfortunately, many ppl don't like to fully share information, preferring to only show the results, what they can do but not disclose the actual mechanism ..... or perhaps like many of the former Garmin coding experts here he's simply been scared off by Garmin's actions against our other prominent former forum members.
Ok now it’s much clearer why the real gurus don’t want to help.
Anyway, the forum user left the forum in December 2025 and I can no longer contact them.
Good evening everyone,
for some tests I would need the firmware of a Garmin Camper 780 or alternatively the full backup without maps.
Is anyone willing to help me?
