Default Gamin Nuvi 57 with firmware of Nuvi 67 - Problem Resolution - Can I reverse?

    Hi friends.

My friend did this: put gamin nuvi 67 firmware on my garmin nuvi 57.

Now I see just part of the screen. I can't start the gps.

What I can do to resolve this problem?

    Thanks a lot.

Using safe methods of firmware upgrading that can't happen. US/EU nuvi 57 has HWID of 2087. Connect the device to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in preboot mode to check what it's HWID is now. If it's HWID now shows as 2088 he must have flashed the full nuvi 67 firmware as an RGN file in preboot mode and you'll need to do the same with correct 57 firmware to reverse it. Usually safe RGN flashing is done with the file naming as XXXX01000xxx.rgn, where XXXX is the device's HWID and xxx is the firmware version. The numerals '01000' tell updater.exe to check the HWID matches the device so if it's mis-matched the flash doesn't proceed. However if any other file naming format is used that check is skipped. Often 'out.rgn' is used for that 'unsafe' flashing which changes the device's HWID to that in the 'foreign' firmware.

If you find that it's now got HWID of 2088 and want to revert to correct 2087 flash the full nuvi 57 as OUT.RGN. Best to clear NV after you do that. Post again if you need specific advice and give more info particularly what your friend actually did when he flashed it. e.g. was it full 67 firmware, or did he make a combined firmware of 57 boot.bin and the remained 67 firmware? Giving as much detail and background as possible will prevent further damage and make reversal easier and safer.
