So I tested first with original FW240. The unlocked maps did not work.
Patched FW240, downgraded to FW230, then installed patched FW240, and now unlocked maps on etrex 30x (patched FW240) work fine.
After patching the 2.40 firmware the map appears to work now anyway.
I have one Unicode map that was created using mkgmap but after reading a few threads, I see that the new devices like Edge 1000, GPS Maps 64 series, Etrex 20x/30x, Etrex Touch 25/35 are not compatible with Unicode maps. But it seems to work after patching firmware as well.
Ok, So I have a Nuvi 2639. I've managed to set everything up as directed, including having Updated with the rgn file loaded, waiting to be put on the Nuvi. I can start pre-boot mode via the diagnostics menu/plugin/reset/push corner method. However, despite being plugged in and in pre-boot mode, nothing ever shows up on the USB device for updater. It shows completely empty the entire time pre-boot completes, and then the Nuvi starts up for real. I've tried this many times but no changes in the result. The PC does have the Garmin USB drivers installed as well.
Thanks for replying.
The file is renamed per the naming guide to 194801000850.rgn and dragged into the Updater for flashing.
Tried both via Diagnostics menu/reboot/hold and via just turning it on and holding. On the Nuvi, I get the pre-boot SYSTEM and LOADING words on the top of the screen when pushing the top corner. However, nothing shows up in Updater. After several moments the loading goes away and it goes to the Express menu since the flashing wasn't able to start up.
Extract this file directly to a CLEAN microSD card and insert it into your device with it turned off: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Turn it on, connect it to a power source if the battery is low.
'Loader', then 'Software Loading' should appear on the screen, wait for it to finish and reboot, it might take a few minutes.
Your device (firmware v.850) should now be successfully patched and accept unlocked maps.
Warning to others: This is for use by Nuvi 26x9 C4: HWID: 1948 ONLY. Do not use for any other devices. Do not modify it unless you know exactly what you're doing. Use of an incompatible Ldr.bin can irretrievably BRICK your device.
Winner winner, chicken dinner.
Thanks so much for your help. This worked perfectly.
I have Garmin DriveLuxe 50.
1 - Downloaded firmware versions 3.50 and 4.10 from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and Garmin and patched the firmware 3.50 and 4.10 firmware versions.
2 - I used "Universal Firmware Patcher for Protected Garmin Devices" FirmwarePatcher.exe and JNXPatcher as well as RGNTool. Patched either firmware and COPIED the new patched firmware to Garmin .system folder or on my SD card and turned off and on Garmin. The GPS goes through the loading new firmware, but it is still complaining Cannot unlock maps. If I have 3.50 firmware and I add the 4.10, after GPS says loading new firmware, my firmware remains 3.50 version and it does not upgrade. But if I just copy NOT PATCHED Garmin 3.50 or 4.10, it DOES DOWNGRADE or UPGRADE. The UPDATER.EXE could not detect the GPS so I used the WEBUPDATER to uploaded the firmwares and the GPS saying loading new firmware.
Am I doing something wrong? How could I remove the protection from this GPS?
