    In your pic of the nuvi it's not in preboot, when below the 'Garmin' logo you see the 'copyright' details then 'Loading maps' it's already booting. You must turn it fully OFF and start again. Try to enter preboot by holding the top left corner of screen and plug USB into socket, full sequence like this:
    • Load RGN into Updater.exe and select USB Device as per your pic above, leave visible on desktop with mouse cursor positioned over 'OK'.
    • Plug a USB cable directly into a REAR port of PC (not a front port and no hub]
    • With nuvi fully off, firmly hold the upper LH cnr of device screen and plug the cable into it's socket which will power it, closely watch the window next to 'USB Device'.
    • INSTANTLY you see the window populated with the device's details press OK or just hit enter key on your PC keyboard if that's easier but you must be very quick!
    • Keep firmly holding the screen until at least you see 'Loader' or similar message appear on the device screen, better to just keep holding until you get the 'success' message from Updater.

    You also posted over in this thread [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] but note that the second kit you asked to be reposted there is the same as the one you've already made but for a much earlier version (v4.50). Read the rest of the posts below #5, especially 9 & 10 because the OP succeeded by using the method above to patch his nuvi 55.

    You've got it into preboot but then it's lost the connection, that could be for one of a few reasons:
    1) You weren't quick enough to hit 'OK' on Updater's GUI;
    2) USB cable is flakey, try others;
    3) You're using a front USB port or a hub, if so change to a direct connection using a rear port but avoid USB3 if possible;
    4) If already using a rear USB2 port try another rear port or change PCs, even try an old XP one.

    With a nuvi 55 it is most likely the first. They stay in preboot for an extraordinarily short time. If you can move very quickly and start the flash immediately you see the device details appear in the window the device will hold preboot, some ppl find it easier/faster to hit the kb Enter key. Read the post immediately above yours and follow the steps, also read the posts in the link given.

    Thank you very much, I am sure I had everything right as I had done it on a Nuvi 57 but did the same on another PC and worked first time.

    Any thoughts on patching firmware for this:

    Code:
    Please Login or Register to see the links
    The .xml reports
    PartNumber 006-J0179-ZZ
    SoftwareVersion 711
    Description RHB17

    This is the embedded Nav PND in a Jeep/Chrysler vehicle.

    The current v1.20 patcher correctly recognizes the .GCD for an RHB17, but it can't find any matches to patch.

    It needs a .GMA to load new maps, confirmed by purchasing the current update from FCA (which is 2017.10 maps ). Would like to load current maps on it, but all attempts result in an unsupported map error.

    Only way to update the firmware on these is by placing the .GCD on a USB stick.

    Thanks!

    There is neither MSV or GSV protection found if you get this message:
    Code:
    Please Login or Register to see the links
    That means there is nothing to patch so maps unlocked with gimunlock will work with it's firmware, provided of course that the patcher is actually correctly reading the firmware.

    Hmmm... I've tried unlocking images six ways from Sunday to no avail, so far.

    In the fw_list, I do see HWID 1420 listed for some of the older versions that would indicate that I just need to unlock the img, but nothing identified for 7.11.

    Maybe I will try starting again and re-download gimgunlock-0.03, create a new .img from scratch in MapSource, and unlock it and see what happens.

    Thanks!

    Your GarminDevice.xml extract shows 006-J0179-ZZ which is inconsistent with the usual garmin proticol being as the HWID of 1420 is of course quite correct for RHB17. HWID 179 is eTrex Legend, just seems a little odd but I don't really know much about the Chrysler hardware.

    Maybe find a copy of gimunlock-0.04 if V0.03 doesn't help.
