Correct, so congratulations elchaca. You've described the initial flash as required by the tutorial in Post no.1 for devices with GSV (GVS) protection. Any subsequent firmware versions can be done simply with a patched GCD file. You haven't mentioned doing a non-vol clearance and, very importantly, a backup of region 154, earlier models have it in rgn41. i.e. the unit's non-vol memory. It's optimal that a backup of that region be done before even starting.

You have omitted reason to say that whenever it is going to make a very important modification have previously made a backup of our GPS many thanks

How do I get my nüviCam (HWID 2043) with software update 3.60 into pre-boot mode?
(where to press on the GPS and how?)

I have looked everywhere and tried to press in the corners & over "G" in Garmin.
I have also tried to press the battery icon and then connect the GPS to the PC. In this way I was shortly recognized in "Updater.exe" and I could press the "OK" button but then it always fails.
(I have tried on a PC and Laptop both runing Win 10)

    Anyone who can help?

Upper left corner and probably just a little hold the power button.
During the flashing don't move your finger from upper left corner or you you'll brick your device

Has anyone run into an issue with the loading of the firmware? I have a Driveluxe 50LMTHD. I've taken the firmware, patched it and created the RGN from this firmware.

The point I'm getting stuck at is where I have the unit in pre-boot mode, and the screen shows SYSTEM, then LOADING (and the Updater seems to detect the unit for a split second). However, I never get the success screen and it just goes to the MTP mode screen (with the Garmin logo and a grey Computer -> GPS image).

    Is there something I'm missing?

Recent devices are quite difficult to flash using preboot mode. They hold in that state for only a very brief time so it's important to have the flash ready to go, i.e. the firmware loaded with Updater.exe visible on your desktop and 'USB Device' selected. Have a USB cable plugged directly to a rear port of PC (NO HUB), ensure device is fully OFF (not in Standby), hold the device screen and plug the cable into it, immediately the device details appear press OK or hit Enter on kb.

If you still have trouble you can flash the patched firmware using individual BIN files and txt commands via microSD. Read this thread: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Post for help if you don't fully understand what to do as using that method improperly can hard-brick a device.

Trying to update my Nuvi 2559LNT to the latest firmware (8.6), previously when though the full process of patching the firmware some time ago and that went well (thanks by the way )

From what i understand, not need to go thought the full process again, just download the new firmware for your specific device, run the image patcher, then either copy the patched GCD file to the SD/Garmin director or use the webupdater (drag the GCD file onto the desktop shortcut).

Problem is, I have tried both ways but for some reason my unit is not updating. If i copy the GCD file to the device and reboot, nothing happens. If I use the web updated, it seems to go though the process, the device reboots, but when I check , firmware has not been updated.

Any ideas what I could be doing wrong ?

    Thanks

If you haven't loaded standard (unpatched) firmware to the 2559 since first updating with patched firmware as an RGN then an update using a GCD should succeed. Try loading the patched V8.60 as an RGN file using Updater.exe in preboot mode.

Just sharing after hours of pain to make this work. My device is Drive 51 (APAC/SG/MY), HWID: 2803, SWID: 210

When converting the gupdate.gcd to rgn using RGN tool, do not override the HWID to 2803. Just leave the settings as posted in the screenshot. I was trying to be too clever and override the HWID which resulted in the device bricking ("System file missing") whenever flashing the firmware (using rgn file) through updater.exe.

However, do rename the rgn file correctly - i.e. 280301000210.rgn
