Looking for some help I tried to go through the how to guide but am not having any luck.
Here is what I can tell you. Unit last worked flawlessly last June and has been living in its box ever since.
Pulled it out yesterday and went to use it and when ever I tried to hit an address in I got an error that there was no map data.
Fired up Garmin express and downloaded update and unit began to install map. Computer recognized the drive and then 1/2 way said there was a drive error and attempted to repair with no luck. Eventually I removed the Garmin, used a different computer and repaired the drive and now it is bricked.
I have tried to do a reset with no luck.
The Garmin screen boots and freezes.
Sometimes the gren bar comes on 1/2" and then unit cycles off.
I can get the calibration screen to come up but the unit powers down before completion.
Computer does not detect the unit aymore.
Any help/suggestions would be awseome!!!!!
Thank you.
Thank you for the reply.I can not get into pre boot mode. The garmin screen comes on and that is as far as the unit goes. If I hold the top left and connect the mini usb to the rear the computer goes ding dong and the pc starts to install drivers but never detects the unit under computer?
As for your other point I have read but am struggling to understand.
1) Bricked device MODEL, Firmware version, HWID.
1360 LMT, dont know dirmware or HWID?
2) Why and how the device got bricked.
Failed to update. Drive error.
3) Symptoms: what's wrong in your device?
Hung on Garmin screen.
4) Does your pc sees your device ?
Kind oF?
5) List all the procedures you already tried to unbrick it and their results and errors messages obtained.
Just pushing all over the screen and attmepting to get to the facory reset.
6) Do you have Garmin USB Drivers installed ? Garmin: USB Drivers Updates & Downloads
Yes.
7) If you don't know HWID get it by Use program G7ToWin to retrieve your HWID
Not sure how to do this as my PC doesnt see the unit.
8) Write down if you already read or tried GarminCure3 tool - the new way to create cure firmwares for Garmin devices
How to unbrick a nüvi - step by step guide
Tried this but cant find firmware for my unit GXC??
9) Can you reach preboot mode? If no ,have you followed this? Garmin Updater.exe v.2.8.0
Dont think so see above.
10) Probably no , but do you have NV backup?
i have files listed in a backup sub folder of Garmin is this what you mean?
11) Once you get a reply and a procedure to follow from our experts, please give an accurate reply about what you did and obtained results.

@Cal
Agree with catymag, you need to persist and try again [she's using her phone to post at present, hard to give detailed help]. But first you need to READ fully [i.e. UNDERSTAND] the info in the links already given. Some hints: Your unit cannot enter Mass Storage Mode because it's 'bricked', but it CAN enter pre-boot mode [that's the Windows 'ding dong' you hear]. It CAN'T be seen by the PC in that mode like it can be seen in MSM but it is recognised [you can see it's listed in Device Manager]. It can also be recognised by [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in preboot to check its HWID [correct hwid needed to be sure we're flashing the appropriate cure firmware], OR, because you said you do have a backup just look in Garmin folder for GarminDevice.xml. Open that with a web browser and look for the HWID in there, near start of xml file look for this:
<PartNumber>006-Bxxxx-00</PartNumber> [xxxx is it's HWID]. It'll be either 0972 or 1104 but the former is more common.
We can fix this unit, but you need to get your head around what's happening first. Once you understand it'll be easy-peasy .

Thank you both for your help. I am having trouble getting HWID from the back up folders. Nothing like you suggested in there. Maybe there not actual backups??
No garmindevice.xml file in Garmin folder in your backup?

@Caty, maybe it's a cr@ppy backup by GarminExpress which doesn't save the Garmin folder.
@Cal
Then just use G7ToWin in preboot mode. Open the program, press File>Configuration to set it up for USB as shown in the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], press OK to get back to the small GUI, select 'GPS' and have the mouse cursor positioned over 'Get GPS ID' in the dropdown list:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Hold the top LH crn of the nuvi's screen while plugging in the USB and when you hear the ding dong connection tone quickly click on 'Get GPS ID'. If you get an error screen just click thru it. You'll see this screen then which is showing one of my 1390s as "ID: 972" meaning it's HWID is 0972:

Success I got the same id code as you. All my #s are the same as yours except obviously the unit id#
Now get the current 0972 firmware [v6.20] from here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Then make and flash the cure fw as shown here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], then format it as shown here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], then reflash the original v6.20 fw and finally connect it to WebUpdater and MapUpdater to get your missing files. You can get another basemap from here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. If you need other files like help or KBs we can supply them. Safest not to put any of your original files back from your backup as you have no idea which one's stopping it from booting.
Follow the procedure set out by smokefree in this: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. As Caty said, it's the solution. Everything you need is actually in there. smokefree spent a lot of time putting that together so that this sort of to 'n' fro would be minimised. Please read it thoroughly before you do anything or post again.
