    Default 2495LMT Where2 Issues

Picked up a Garmin 2495 LMT with the Where2 customized software. What a pain. I've been trying to downgrade the software so that I can enable the speed limits (it was disabled, don't ask me why). I had it working and then tried to re-upgrade to the newest version. That removed the speed limits again. So, I battled with the device and got it to re-load the older firmware but now it is asking me for a PIN.

It never had a pin. This appeared out of nowhere. Now what? I don't know if I plugged/unplugged the USB cable too fast and that caused this or what's going on. I still have the Where2 customized start screen when the 2495 boots up but it references 2012 (for the older firmware) vs 2014 for the newest firmware.

I can use a CURE file if that will help -- don't know if it will.

I used the Updater.exe to do all of this.

    HWID is 1371
    Firmware version is 630

    Thanks

Added info -- Garmin Express thinks I'm on the newer version, 820, of the firmware though I think the older 630 is what's actually on the device given the copyright data that comes up when the system starts.

Also, I'm running a Mac now so I had to do the Updater, RGN, etc. in a virtualized environment on Windows XP.

    Thanks.

You don't see PIN, you see password screen from where 2 company.
Difference: PIN is 4 number and password is 6 number.

Try, you will see that you need 6 number to enter.

This password have only Where2 company and you can't remove it.

I also have in hand 2495 from where2 and try all that i can think, but this password always stay.

If you search for specification you will see that nuvi 2495 don't have PIN function, but this device have OEM firmware and this is reason why you see password screen, becouse this FW is created specific for Where2 company.

This firmware also don't alow to store gupdate.gcd on unit, when you try to flash unit with regular FW, you automatic start protection on device and now you see password screen.

Only thing that you can do is, to send back to seller this unit or go to Where2 company and maybe they will tell you password for unlock device.

    Default Oof, you're right...

Ok, I understand. Oddly, I was previously able to flash upgraded firmware and it worked fine. Now, it does not. Hard stop at the PIN.

Well, password, I suppose. Because, you're right -- my other 2495 (sitting right next to me) does not have a PIN function and this is asking (or allowing) six-digit input.

So.... is that it? All done? No fix? No good?

    ---

Spoke to Garmin and they're going to fix it for me. Thanks.

Garmin can unlock device or disable password, becouse they create this FW for Where2 company and they know how to install regular FW with no password function.

When you first time flash your unit, gupdate.gcd was not stored on device but desapire after flash and this enable protection in device.
Where2 company have this password set, so user must enter it every month 1 time.

When you downgrade FW, you reset device settings and this is reason why you enable password screen, becouse device think that one month period is over and is time to enter password.

If you buy where2 device on auction and if when you got it in hand you don't see password, belive me in one month you will see this password screen automatic.

To all user who see where2 device on ebay, be aware that you will see password screen in 1 month period, so if you like to buy this device you will have it for parts or call Garmin if they can help you ( but you must pay Garmin to remove password ).
If you buy where2 device on some live auction, hard reset device before you pay, to see if password is enabled or not.
