Tried the downgrade option to 4.30 but it did not work. Still waiting for Garmin to come back to me.

Hi all, had a quite day in work so called up the UK Garmin support number. Spoke to a rep who was not sure where the problem could be. They did confirm to their knowledge that there aren't any issues with the update. Long story short they want both the unit and GTM70 back to base to examine them. It would be useful to know was it only me and Gette who had problems; if you applied the update fine with a EU GTM70 cable would love to know.
I know they get a bit a stick but the UK help desk people could not have been more helpful, just don't bother with the E-Mail system they ignore it!!!
Not sure anyone is still interested but Garmin replaced my GTM70 and installed the software. I can confirm the GTM software in about is now at 2.20 and I get all the traffic updates. For anyone that is interested below is a link to the GCD file on my device now if it is any use to anyone

@SavaSnoo
The above file is identical to Version 2.30 direct from from Garmin [FirmwareUpdateforGTMxxDigitalRadioTypeS_230.gcd] in the official link from Post #1. I've checked again, and the first file you linked in Post #20 is identical to GTM60 NA/AU firmware file also named 006B154600.gcd as i previously advised in Post #29.
There was no V2.20 from Garmin in their changelog, it goes from 2.00 to 2.30.
Somehow you were given the wrong firmware for your GTM70 and that's what bricked it. The problem seems not in the direct download file from Garmin, perhaps it's because GarminExpress and/or WebUpdater were erroneously offering the GTM60 fw for GTM70 for a short time.
Could you and Gette advise how the initial problem firmware update was obtained please? Did you manually load it yourself from somewhere or was it offered by GE/WU?
Sorry but it is file with version 2.30 and it is the same as file in post #1?!Quote:

That's correct G, it is the same as the first file in post #1 [FirmwareUpdateforGTMxxDigitalRadioTypeS_230.gcd], but I don't think the warning can safely be removed from the initial post just yet. Doubt still remains over the second file linked there [FirmwareUpdateforDigitalRadioTypeS_230.gcd] and to be sure we should wait for a reply from gette or SavaSnoo to the question in my previous post.

Yep, it's clearly showing GTM 2.20, but irrefutably the 006B154600.GCD file from your returned unit which you've uploaded in Post #33 is identical to Garmin's V2.30 GCD file which is named "FirmwareUpdateforGTMxxDigitalRadioTypeS_230" in Post #1 and you can easily compare them yourself in both hash and hex to confirm that. My guess is that 2.20 naming was used by Garmin as a recovery 'downgrade' firmware, but it's still really 2.30 because that's proven by the hash and hex compares. I also reckon that yours and gette's receivers weren't the only GTM70s bricked by loading the GTM60 firmware courtesy of GarminExpress so you may not have received your original receiver back, possibly it's a 'refurb unit' which would explain the relatively fast turnaround.
Garmin has a history of remaining tight-lipped on this sort of stuff up. They generally quietly fix or exchange any problem units resulting, thus minimising 'bad press' collateral damage. I grudgingly admire that corporate philosophy quite frankly ...... ;)
PS: I removed your Unit ID from your image, not good to display that publically.
