    Right according to the iphone app store description it should work with the RV760.... SOOOOOO close... Unfortunately it is not in warranty... I wonder if I have to flash it fully to a 760 to get the smartlink to work.... scary lol... I agree that its probably the unit, thats why I was trying to cut my losses and pay for the smartlink traffic... The first year I owned it I flew to other trucks a lot and didn't bring it with me... So I really didn't think/notice that it had a problem... They were cool with swapping out the traffic/charger cable... my own fault I guess...

    I doubt a full conversion will make a scrap of difference to the practical operation of the unit itself or it's performance. It's using the firmware of RV760 so it's become one for all real intents, other than it's using the original dezl HWID and its boot.bin [ramloader] to load the RV's unit firmware. Either it can load the fw or it can't. It can, so any problems it has now it logically should also have after a full flash to RV with that HWID. It's not all that risky to do a full conversion, just potentially not so easy to re-convert. Try it if you want, it will convert to HWID 1730 but i seriously doubt it can help you at all.

    The problems are possibly 2-fold:
    (1) A physical fault with the USB socket or it's MO connection or a component failure on the board itself resulting in the flaky charging and non-reception of FM TMC [sometimes it can help to re-flow the solder connections for the USB socket, but if the problem is on the board then that won't help of course];
    (2) The subscription for the smartphone link not being validated. Maybe it's the phone, easy to eliminate that by trying another smartphone. In some places Garmin ensures certain features are 'locked out' by Locale selected, and some factory localisations do that intentionally, i think maybe also some subscriptions are disabled too [?]. I effectively know nothing about the latter though. In some modern units it's possible to temporally change the locale via the hidden menu behind the Speedo [press 'Speed' field on the main screen, then hold the centre of the speedo for several seconds to access the developer menu]. Other units can only be hard reset and the new Locale selected on reboot. Clear NV in the hidden menu will even more comprehensively reset the unit. Worth a try imo.

    So here is an update... I was in Ohio for a few days in the middle of a couple of jobs. I was going to purchase a new garmin that had a GTM36 and swap with mine and then return it, to further troubleshoot the traffic issue. To my surprise they had a Dezl760 on clearance and it was the display model... So I bought it took it out to the truck snapped the new GPS on the cradle on the truck and boom traffic worked instantly, with my old cradle and power cord... So it is definitely my old GPS that's the issue... I am going to swap units and return the already opened box purchase back to the store. I also flashed my original back to a Dezl 760 with success...
    So my concern is that maybe since my old units traffic worked originally when I bought it I am leery of updating the software/firmware in anyway since I just drove around 1K with it and it worked smartlink doesn't work but as long as it receives it with the antenna fine...
    Is there a way that I can bu the state that it is in now... firmware software everything in case i update it and it looses its mind basically so I can go back to stock if an issue arises...

    Lol, thanks for that post which has me considering an urgent update of my Advanced Medical Directive 'cos i'd plumb forgotten that 2797/760 have a powered mount/cradle [seriously blonde senior moment] and therefore it's unlikely there's a problem with the device's usb socket unless you meant the flaky charging relates to when it's connected to an AC/DC charger or 5V usb from computer. So your cradle and GTM 36 are OK as shown by the display-model 760 test, therefore other than a PCB failure of course, it could be one or more of the goldplated connection pads on the device itself are simply dirty [but there still could be a failure on the board if that doesn't fix things].

    Even if they look ok, clean them with a little dedicated electrical contact clearer [don't use DW-40 or similar, those products leave an oily residue]. If you don't have contact cleaner use 100% pure alcohol very sparingly but better to buy contact cleaner. Rather than spray it on directly, use it on a cotton bud/Q-tip and wipe the contacts firmly with that. If that doesn't work, try cleaning the pads very carefully with the tip of a rubber eraser.

    No problem to roll back the firmware, the only back-up of it's 'state' at least partially is to dump regions but don't worry about that. The *.gcd file for a certain version is all you'll ever need. You should keep your backups of region 41 in a safe place though.

    PS: Ohio in the summer's ok sometimes, nice to back in Texas i guess .....
