    Default Nuvi 265WT bricked

I'm reaching out as a last resort. I think this nuvi is bricked beyond repair, so at this point, I'm willing to try anything

    Standard questions:
    1) Nuvi 265WT, 7.60 firmware, 0827 hw id
    2) On Friday, I updated the firmware, maps, and additional files (voices, etc.) in preparation for a trip. Upon reboot, it showed "Loading maps..." until the battery died (4 hours or so). I tried many ways of reseting it, hard reset (lower right corner of screen), reset button under bottom label, holding the power button for 30+ second. No matter what, it would not enter mass storage mode. It would just stop at loading maps. Screen calibration mode worked for about five button pushes, and then it stopped doing anything. So after reviewing many forum posts, I used GarminCure3 to flash back to the original 7.60 firmware in pre-boot mode. The updater ran, but then crashed in the end with a IOU_UTILITIES.CPP-203-2.8 error. (I could hear the two tone down usb dismount when it hit 100%). Reboot resulted in loading maps hang again. So I tried a cure firmware of 7.6. Same thing. Then I tried a 6.6 (I think) firmware for the 0827 hardware. It ran through to 100%, and then started over, and took 30 minutes to install the firmware. Then it just hung at the end. When I rebooted, it gave me the missing system software error. I spent 2 hours on the phone with Garmin trying to flash it back into existence with the 7.60 firmware. Nada. The tech said that after it hits 100%, it should disconnect and then reconnect to the USB. It doesn't come back up, though. The device shows "Loader" (not "Loading Loader"
    3) "System Software Missing" is the message.
    4) It will only be detected in Windows when I'm in pre-boot mode.
    5) See above.
    6) Yes, per the Garmin tech.
    7) G7ToWin returns details above. When it isn't throwing "USB Error: WaitComplete: Error Waiting for ERROR_IO_PENDING" or "USB Error: open_Garmin_USB: Failed getting USB Handle"
    8) "How to unbrick nuvi" run several times.
    9) Yes, I can reach pre-boot mode (I'm assuming it is pre-boot mode. It does what I expect in that mode, that is.)
    10) No NV backup.

    Any thoughts?

It looks like your device is not flashing the Cure properly.
Have you tried another Cable ? Another Computer ?

What do you mean with (I think)? Have you flashed wrong HWID firmware?
System software missing means something wrong for HWID IMO

Yes, four different computers, two different cables (one Garmin, one generic). All the computers were Windows 7 Professional? Would that make any difference?

I tried it again on my slowest computer, and this time I saw:
    Loader Loading....
    Software Loading...
    Loader

And heard it disconnect (two down "down" sound) and then reconnect when I flashed it, but I never get the update successful message. Only the IOU_UTILITIES.CPP-203-2.8 error.

Sorry! The (I think) means that I was writing the post from work, and the firmware I had tried the night before was home. Now that I'm home again, I verified that it was 6.60, and that it was for the 0827 hardware.

The Garmin rep had me try the 1091 firmware, but the Updater refused to run because it didn't match the hardware.

She was getting desperate to find something that works.

I am running as Admin on the Win7 systems. I'll try to find an old XP machine at work tomorrow.

Oh, and I am trying the GarminCure3 tool to create the new firmware.

Can I do anything using an SD card? With it hosed like this, does it read from the SD card by any chance?

Unfortunately, I doubt it could load a 0827 gupdate.gcd from an SD, even if the HWID isn't screwed up by attempting a flash with MTK 1091 fw.

He/She/It had you do WHAT?! God save us from blonde service desk droids. How was that fw rgn named? If it was named anything other than 109101000xxx.rgn [where xxx is the fw version] the flash would be forced. If it was named other than conventionally, the flash may have started but then aborted. Maybe your HWID has been overwritten to 1091? If Caty's good advice below doesn't work, try flashing the original 0827 fw in updater.exe named 'out.rgn'. If unsuccessful, try the 0827 cure fw as the same name.

The firmware she had me try was "109100010760.rgn". So that's good.

The HWID I noted originally came from G7Win after the call with Garmin, so thankfully its not overwritten.

I'll try the XP machine, then renaming the 082700010760.rgn to out.rgn and reflash, then try a cure version of the 082700010760.rgn file and let you all know.

What should the GPS unit say when the firmware update is successful? It goes into Mass Storage Mode, so I'm assuming I can see it in Windows (RMPrepUSB or Disk Management). But does the GPS show anything?

On the SD possibility, would I just use the "nuvi2x5W_GCDFile__760.gcd" and rename it GUPDATE.GCD? Should it show anything on the screen?
