    Default Nuvi 1490 help

My nuvi is stuck in the garmin logo screen, I have tried the garmin cure3 but unable to get to my files that are saved in the nuvi.
All I want is the mileage files not interested in saving the gps. I have another gps to replace this one, but I need the mileage file badly.
    Thanks

Kunix's cure should allow to connect Nuvi to pc and let you save your files on pc.
Probably you can save your 1400 too

I have tried that at least a dozen times and still nothing. It loads fine but the computer never sees the garmin files. I guess I am missing something

Maybe the nuvi is not being allocated a drive letter for some reason. Have you checked in Disk Management? Depending on your OS, something like this: Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management and then see if the 1490 is listed as 'GARMIN' but without a drive letter as in the topmost entries indicated by red arrows in the pic. If it has no letter right click either entry, select 'Change Drive Letters and Paths...' and add a drive letter.

Have tried that. The problem is I need to keep my finger in the top left corner of the garmin while doing this and after a short time you here the disconnect. I haven't been able to get it to come up. Tried on two computers so far vista and win7, no luck

Now I'm just not following you as to what stage you are up to. In post #3 you said 'It loads fine but the computer never sees the garmin files'. By 'It' i assume you mean the cure3 firmware and if that's loaded the nuvi should normally immediately enter Mass Storage Mode if a faulty file was preventing it booting past the logo screen.

What do you mean by 'The problem is I need to keep my finger in the top left corner of the garmin while doing this and after a short time you here [sic] the disconnect.'? Do you mean you haven't been able to get into preboot mode to even load the cure? Or have you flashed the cure and you are trying to access MSM by holding the top LH corner? That's only to get into pre-boot, and in preboot if you don't start flashing within 30 seconds it will go to the white calibration screen if it's not connected to the PC, or if connected it will give the 'du du du' disconnect sound and to go MSM if it's able to.

Please post a 'blow by blow' full explanation of what you've done so far so we can understand where you are stuck exactly.

I have used cure 3 to load the normal firmware, then I select the cure and install the .rgn file. I do this by holding my finger in the top right corner turning on the gps and as soon as the gamin logo comes up I connect to the usb I then hear the connect tone and start the process of loading the file. This is the only time that I can use the cure. It will install and says complete when done. Then I am back to the same problem meaning all I can do is turn the gps on, the logo comes up and just hangs there. If I put my finger in the top left corner turn the unit on then connect to usb I hear the connect tone but cannot see anything in "my computer screen"while looking for the garmin file the device will disconnect in 30sec or so. The screen of the gps never changes from the garmin logo, so I can only assume that I get into pre-boot. The fact that I can load the cure or .rgn it must be, but that's all I can do. The only thing that I see on the garmin screen is a quick flash just as it starts loading the file. I hope that this helps you understand what I have done.

Use GarminCure3 in "cure" mode to gain access to the files inside your nuvi.

Does updater.exe complete the flashing process ( 3 sections )?
After Cure is installed the nuvi will not boot completely only to garmin logo.
Close updater and let the nuvi boot, remove memory card, no finger on display, You should get a drive in my computer.
