    No need for update.log to be empty or even initially present for 1xxx series devices in my experience Loly, the new info just keeps being written below the previous info. No harm in removing it though. Certainly last_id.log must be removed of course.

    I already gave him the command to copy GPX to the card in post #42, but i guess you're right and better to supply the all the packs ready made.

    @amos1
    If you still haven't been able to copy region 41 or the gpx folder, here are 3 fresh packs below. Perhaps the write to card is being interrupted because the unit tries to boot before it's finished and that's why you have only a partial 41_backup.bin file and 'error' in update.log, but it should have had time to complete so maybe rgn41 is corrupt. It certainly should have had plenty of time to copy only the gpx folder.

    Try again with loly's boot RGN file flashed with updater.exe in preboot to backup 41 using this pack unzipped onto a clean card:

    If you get another backup keep it. Then regardless of outcome, use this one to try to copy GPX:
    [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    If neither is successful and you are ready to give up, use this one to erase region 41 and then your PC should see the internal files if the unit's flash drive is not damaged:

    Be aware that when you erase 41 without a viable or repairable backup that your unit will have lost it's registration and unlock codes.

    Interesting. I haven't had that happen, so thanks for the tip.

    On another note Loly, if he cannot get a complete dump of 41, do you think it's worthwhile getting amos1 to upload the 2496KB 41_backup.bin file? There just may be something there that you or kunix could use to remake a good one for his unit.

    Hi Neil,Loly
    Have you tried this method yourself on a working Nuvi ? (especially the copydir command)
    I tried it a while back on a bricked nuvi 1310 and it also did not work for me.
    Strangely enough after many attempts of flashing firmware in preboot mode the Nuvi unbricked itself by fluke.
    I can't remember everything as it happened over a few days of attempting but I might have flashed JAP by mistake at some stage.
    That Nuvi is still working today in the hands of a co-worker.

    I've never managed to get the copydir command to work as expected (It tries to copy the whole nuvi and it makes a bit of a mess)

    Glad you got it amos1. But 1.13GB? A typo?

    @dasil
    Mate that's got me beat. copydir works fine for me. I've got an otherwise healthy 1490 with a flaky USB socket and i've dumped the entire nuvi to a microSD, as well as individual folders. I've also deleted individual files on 0: and copied files 0: to 1: and 1: to 0: using the conventional command with ldr.bin in 0972 folder. If you have a bricked nuvi with cure fw on board the conventional sd method won't work of course.

    I posted in this thread about a 1390 i bricked intentionally to test kunix's modded boot RGN method being used by amos1 and flashing worked fine for me using updater.exe to successfully dump NV and also to copy/delete files. i don't remember trying copydir on it bricked though but can't see why it wouldn't work. amos1 has used it to copy his GPX folder.

    @ neil
    I tried your exact copydir command as per your pack. (LDR.BIN on SD Card Method) on Nuvi 1300 that works. I did it last night:

    copydir,0:/GPX,1:/GPX
    reboot

    What happened is that it tried to dump the entire nuvi inside the folder GPX.
    I stopped it halfway.

    This would explain why the OP has a 1.13 gig folder called GPX.
    The current.gpx will be there though, Mission accomplished.

    I have previously tried it on Nuvi 3490 (Same PROBLEM)
    If you have some time would you try it again please, just individual folder using the copydir command.

    @Dasil
    I can't explain this. I just did a 'copydir' for GPX on a 1200 and the [almost entire] internal files of the unit were copied into a GPX folder on the card. As you'll see from the comparative side-by-side below, the folder names were clipped of the first 3 characters i.e. .System became stem, text is t, Voice is ce etc. Individual root files such as nuvi_drive.ico were ignored as was the 4-characterJPEG folder inexplicably. But the sole content of the unit's GPX folder, Current.gpx is there.
