No, none of that worked after cure is installed. This problem started about 4 days ago the gps just started to act up so I shut it down and it never recovered

If I leave the gps on long enough it will try to reboot the screen will flash and stay on the logo screen

So in essence, you have the cure fw on board but the PC doesn't recognise the unit at all. Try this fix in Post #20 here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], but read all relevant preceding posts first. It sounds like the same problem you have.

You do have latest Garmin usb drivers i assume.

I mean CURE is just to plug Nuvi to pc and see it in MyComputer,
to open Nuvi folders and drag files you want to save to your pc. (your mileages too)
After that, if nuvi had serious problem (no boot), you should format it and flash original nuvi firmware so nuvi can boot again.
I think you haven't yet understood this procedure. You should read with care kunix's thread.

OK, so my understanding is this:

    (i) You're sure you've loaded the cure fw correctly.
(ii) You have the latest Garmin USB Drivers loaded on your PC.
(iii)You're positive that Windows refuses to see your 1490 in Windows Explorer.
(vi)It's not displayed [even without a drive letter] in Disk Management [if you didn't check successfully before in Disk Management please do it again, not holding the screen, just plugging via a rear port as below].

Please now answer these questions as to your findings when the nuvi is connected to PC normally, [not holding the screen to access preboot] just plugging it to the PC via usb to access Mass Storage Mode. Ensure the connection is not via a front PC port, only to a rear port directly [not thru a hub] with the nuvi off:

    (i) Does the PC give the connection tone shortly after you plug it in?
(ii) Does the nuvi display the Garmin logo with the PC tower image below it after connection?
(iii)Is any other info displayed below the logo, e.g. 'Loading Maps' even briefly?
(vi)How long before the nuvi self-disconnects and tries to reboot while still connected to PC?
(vii)If you insert a microSD into the nuvi, it that seen in Windows Explorer or Disk Management?

    Try with this:

1.) Download this and unpack to desktop:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

2.) Open folder for repair and updater inside and flash in pre boot
3.) instal prepusb and format nuvi ( you have picture beside prepusb to see how to set prep usb )
4.) after format create empty folder and add name Garmin
5.) Open folder Original and updater inside and flash in pre boot
6.) Now your Pc will see nuvi and you can now update your device with webupdater
If you wish, you can [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Have you checked if it's recognised by a different PC? Preferably one with XP OS.
