help Nuvi 1310 Works fine until connected to PC

Hi everyone, i know this forum for a while and noticed it's one of the few with the most informed people. I like to try stuff before asking but this time i couldn't figure out how to solve it on my own, here's the problem:

    • Nuvi 1310 works fine, car charger works great and i can navigate without reboots and works like it should.

Problem comes when i connect it to the computer to update maps or something, Mass Storage Mode screen shows in screen but then the unit reboots, then boot to main screen and then again show the Mass Storage on screen and reboots again until i disconnect it.

    I tried:
    • Pre boot to access from PC
    • Flashing a Cure firmware

Device when flashed the cure firmware kept in a reboot loop, when flashed back to the original firmware went back to normal.

Is my device filesystem broken? But why then it can load the map and navigate? It has frmware 6.20

    Thanks

Try using GarminCure3's CURE option. Other cure firmwares have nothing to do with the mass storage mode, they only prevent loading of some files (possibly currupted).
Then try QuickCure3 (google it). It's useful to know how your devices behaves in this case.
If it doesn't help, try clearing NV memory.

Try another USB cable or another usb port.
If you use home desktop PC connect nuvi in rear USB port.
If you wish, you can [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I would also try disabling AV in case it blocking autorun.ini and could cause device to act up.

Is drivers updated and current for device?

Hello and thanks for your answers.
I've tried different PC's and USB ports and the problem persist.
I have the latest garmin drivers and runing windows 8.1
AV was disabled but no luck there

I will try QuickCure 3 and cleaning NV memory but i'm still reading a bit so i'll take the night to do so. I'll tell you later if it worked (i hope it does :D)

If it helps, here's the picture from the diagnostic menu in the Nuvi:

I think that maybe you have a corrupt file in your nuvi as kunix already posted.
If you flash GarminCure 3 in Cure Mode can you access the filesystem ?
If you can, then Backup the entire Filesystem including the hidden /.System folder
Once the backup is complete try deleting all files or formatting with rmprepusb as shown in the GarminCure 3 thread.
Then flash nuvi with GarminCure3 in original mode and try accessing Nuvi with PC (without putting back files)
Nuvi 1xxx can boot without files.

Hi, thanks for helping me. GarminCure3 cure firmware doesn't work, the connect and disconnect beep starts playing in my pc, no way to enter mass storage in this option.

However, i found some way to clear nv memory
    rrgn,41,1:/41.bin
    ergn,41
    reboot
Although it was made for a 971 and im using i 972 i just changed the number and flashed with the RGN it came with, it created no log file (i left it run for about 7 minutes).
Then i used again QuickCure with Payload and this time i was able to see the two drives!!! I clicked and saw everything there for about 4 or 5 seconds and then it rebooted again.

I would like to figure this out, i won't mind if everything is deleted and the map is lost if the GPS can be saved. Was i using a bad nv clearing method? Thanks a lot, when i say the garmin folder for a second hope came back to me! :D

That's not what was meant for you to do when it was suggested that you clear [non-protected] NV and what you did was potentially dangerous because that's dealing with protected NV. This is what you were meant to do: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. I suggest you do that now as that is the best first-aid/immediate action to apply initially for any unit exhibiting weird behaviour. You will only lose your favourites, history etc but it not a big deal like it is to lose your unit registration and unlock codes etc when you erase rgn41.

The first command is for a copy of rgn41 to be written as 41.bin to the root of the microSD [rrgn = copy region]. The second is to erase it [ergn]. Luckily both commands appear not to have been executed maybe because you were still using the ldr.bin for HWID 0971 but if the first command failed and the second succeeded you would have wiped reg41 without a backup. That's why what you did is risky imo. No update.log or last_id.bin in the 0972 folder confirms both failed.

If it is intended to erase 41, it's always safer to back it up first with a separate command:

    rrgn,41,1:/41.bin
    reboot

Then when you are sure you have a good copy, you can erase it with:

    ergn,41
    reboot

Most probably your NV was not cleared, as update.log was not created.
So the fact that you could see your drives for a few seconds is due to something else.

So try clearing NV as Neil suggested (make sure update.log is created and "Success" is written after each command).

If it still doesn't help then can you try using QuickCure3 a few more times? I mean maybe that successful connection was just accidental.
Also can you please check the Crash Log? It's located in the engineering menu, which occurs when you hold and press the large speedometer.

Ok I think that the problem is an intermittent USB connection on one of the data lines.
Why ? Nuvi 1xxx reboots when data connection to usb is lost (some other Nuvi's switch off )
Use Another Cable (Loly has already suggested)
Clean all USB plugs with alcohol and brush or contact cleaner spray.
Open Nuvi and check soldering and condition of usb female plug on main pcb.
