    Default 3790 Firmware update

    Hi
Trying to update my 3790 , "about" shows software version as 4.91.

Webupdater says update to version 5.00 is available but when trying to update ,all I get is "there was a problem with the Garmin website !!

when using "my Garmin" Dashboard , all goes well and update completes but the version on the unit still says 4.91 ???

Just had a look see in the nuvi files and there is LXN-UPD.GCD , so as a newbie I'm now totally confused .

    what is LXN-UPD.GCD

    regards

Rename LXN-UPD.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD if you want to update your device's firmware.

Your device had Luxena's protected firmware installed. LXN-UPD.GCD presence is a sign of it. For the same reason normal firmware update didn't work.

Briefly - local developers desparate from the unofficial tendency of world wide free garmin maps began thinking that unlockable maps is a good marketing policy. (just joking)

No maps are signifi! On Ukraine there are two "official" distributor of Garmin. Plus more cheaper a gray import take place that is also concern of Romania distributor. Coding of map is a way to bind the buyer to personal distributor. It is war for device buyer and profit but on war all ways are good!
Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?

CarteBlanche (the third Garmin map developer in Ukraine) was rejected by Garmin in buying of MPC licence due to super active lobby of above mentioned monsters. After that CarteBlanche left the scene as reseller of Garmin. The concurrency is terrible power in third world country. May be next boxing match presented every month in Ukrainian parliament would be caused by Garmin. Or we could see Vladimir Klitschko with Luxena or Aeroscan label on his boxers.

    @ Gio

Navteq/Nokia are covering Ukraine and hardly an MPC mapping can compete with them. So hopefully this would end.

    @ Kunix

Yes, exactly. I am closing this topic. Hopefully Caty don't mind. But have a feeling the discussion is not productive any more.
