    Default Enable TMC in a nüvi 250W

    I have a nüvi 250W (not a nüvi 250WT!) and I have a GTM25 traffic receiver for it. When connecting it, I get the message that this accessory is not supported (screenshot not taken from actual unit!):

    ctgq

    Is it possible to enable TMC in this unit? I suspect I have to flash the proper firmware for this. If that is the case, can someone point me in the right direction where to find the correct firmware?

    There was a 'so called' 2x0W which is in fact a 2x5W for all intents and purposes with HWID of 0827 and it runs 2x5W fw which is traffic capable, whereas the 'real' 2x0W series has HWID of 0737 and isn't traffic capable. Some years ago, for reasons not obvious to us mere mortals the Gods @ Garmin unleashed the 2x5W guts in a 2x0W case for a short time [i think in the northern summer of 2009] and confusion has reigned ever since. Makes as much sense as naming the stripped down nuvifone G60 as nuvi 295W which makes ppl think it's part of the nuvi 2x5W range when it's not.

    Short answer: You cannot make a HWID 0737 2xxW traffic capable without some serious under-the-hood firmware manipulation which quite frankly isn't worth the effort for a $30 device even assuming that it's possible to do [and it's probably not anyway]. Further, because HWID 0737 and 0827 units have differing PCB P/Ns it it not possible to cross-flash their firmwares.

    If you have in folder Garmin trafficprovider.xml downloaded with webupdater then your unit support TMC.
    Let us know what HWID dou you have on this unit and what version of FW dou you have installed.

    In the GarminDevice.xml file, I notice:

    <Model>
    <PartNumber>006-B0827-00</PartNumber>
    <SoftwareVersion>760</SoftwareVersion>
    <Description>nüvi 250W</Description>
    </Model>

    So that would mean HWID = 0827. There is no file in the Garmin folder by the name trafficprovider.xml. Can I copy this from a nüvi 255WT which I also have, or is this file unit specific?

    FW version = 7.60. This is unusual for a nüvi 250W, as the latest version for this model is supposed to be v4.10. That makes me think it is loaded with FW for nüvi 255W for reasons explained by Neil in post #2. Assuming that is correct, it would also mean this unit should be traffic capable...

    It is normally. This device is almost nüvi 255W but without a some function. I do not remember if TMC is supported or no. trafficprovider.xml is not needed in any case because all data present in FW for this model. Check please RemoteSW folder with 006B048201.bin and 006B090100.gcd files there in that the first Nuvi 2x5 do not have preloaded SW for TMC.
    Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?

    Not necessarily, what i meant is that the firmware supports traffic ['it runs 2x5W fw which is traffic capable']. The traffic function may still be blocked, but maybe Loly can help with that.

    Loly, would flashing a 2x5W logo help?

    Not fully sure what you mean, but the RemoteSW folder does contain the two mentioned files plus a few others:

    @Neil

    He can try flash 2x5W logo but first must create backup of original logo, we will see if then TMC will work.

    Yes, and he should also backup rgn41 too of course.

    @smokefree
    I'm sure you know how to backup both rgn16 & rgn41 before you flash the 2x5W logo, if not please don't proceed until you've done that. When you have the backups, try flashing the 2x5W logo using this kit [courtesy of Loly]:

    Thanks for the replies. I will do some studying in the Tutorials Section first before proceeding. I am unfamiliar with both the backing up of regions as well as flashing a logo (which I assume is not the same as FW). If then still unable to proceed, I will ask for more assistance.
